Shadow Milk Cookie escapes the Silver Tree with hopes of receiving forgiveness for his time as a Beast so he may return to his position as a virtue. However, he has not realized just how long he has been imprisoned for. Before he has any chance of being a virtue once again, he must relearn the ways of the world, including how to speak the common language.
The silver tongue of the Master of Deceit is useless when there's nobody it can be spoken to with, though there's one especially compassionate ancient willing to meet him halfway.

Summary
Back when the Virtues were falling and transforming into beats, Shadow Milk found himself plagued with a deep sense of loniness. All his former friends, the beasts, were slipping away from him and their motley crew was falling to pieces.
He couldn't stand idly by and let that happen so he decided the best way to bring them all back together was to introduce a few bundles of baby dough into their lives, making them come together as one big twisted family.
The mixture was prepared and the oven was heated but Shadow Milk never got a chance to bake their sons and daughters thanks to the machinations of Silent Salt and Dark Enchantress Cookie, leaving his plans and his family lost to time.
Until those very same children resurface countless years later, totally unaware of their origins. Fortunately their uncle Shadow Milk, recently freed from the prison of the Silver Tree, is more than happy to arrange a few family reunions!

His connection to his lifeforce and magic was essentially cut off, pausing the flow of his veins, slowly crumbling the edges of his body. It wouldn’t be long now before the wire snapped, and his story came to an end, something he had never predicted in all his years. He was immortal, that was the truth, but the twist was the fact that with his soul halved, cut and ripped out of his body, he only survived off the poisoned parts, feeling it drip into him like cold ice.

What was wrong with it?! Better yet, why did he have it?! He threw the covers off himself, not even caring when he heard his own souljam hit the ground with a thud, staring into Shadow Milk's soul jam like his gaze alone would fix whatever happened to it.*Basically, Pure Vanilla accidentally took Shadow Milk's souljam in the fight, not knowing that taking it away was basically a death sentence for him. Now he has to find him and give it back before he fades into nothing, never to come back. Lots of angst, lots of ehhhh eventual fluff, fun times!

So, when some poor soul still dared to approach him, he made sure to drive them off. He said the cruelest things he could think of—sharp words designed to cut deep. He dressed in clothes that would make the local clergy choke, though he hadn’t set foot in a church for years anyway. He took up smoking, because if people wanted a reason to hate him, he’d give them one.
But then he showed up.
Pure Vanilla. The shepherd’s son.
Always the first to arrive at church, and the last to leave. Always helping others. Compassionate. Gentle. Kind to the point of annoyance. His skin was sun-kissed from long days in the fields, and his hair long, golden, and gleaming caught the light like it was spun from summer itself.
He was the kind of person people called good without hesitation. Perfect even.
And for some gods-forsaken, witch-cursed reason, he had made it his personal mission to befriend Shadow Milk.
