Summary
Edward takes a life, and it scars him. He grapples with the fact, and uses a special coping mechanism that does more than mentally scar him.
OR
Edward yelped and clamoured at the pain, before the knife retracted and came back again to twist in between his ribs. The boy screamed, pounding his own weapon into the man's stomach and swiping across the soft belly. His stomach tore open, the sharp blade cut his skin like butter as he wobbled away, the blood he leaked trailing on the snow before he fell down a few feet away.
Edward backed away as well, his back thumping into a bit of tall rubble as his knees buckled underneath the shaking and jolt of pain from the wall. He let himself slide down, legs spurring out and hand firmly over his wounds.

Summary
Edward had meant to only briefly stop in Xerxes for some research on his way to visit Alphonse in Xing.
He hadn't expected to encounter people living in the ruins of Xerxes—not Ishvalan refugees, but settlers from Amestris.
And what kind of researcher would he be if he didn't find out what had brought them here?
If he had known what he would find, he would never have gotten involved. He wouldn't have let them see him.

Summary
While visiting their teacher in Dublith, Edward and Alphonse are captured by insurgents from Aerugo. With no idea where they're being held or why and with escape promising to be more dangerous than captivity, the brothers have no choice but to comply with their captors' demands if they are to have any hope of making it out alive and protecting the people they love most.
This fic (single longfic, not an anthology) will be a multi-fill project for Whumptober 2025

Summary
Trisha Elric dies from illness when Ed and Al are only 5 and 4. Her sister-in-law, and Ishvalan widow living in the far eastern mountains takes them in, but ultimately the boys lose her and parts of themselves to the war. Ending up in Central they are found by the genius Hohenheim who claims them. A cold, callused man he uses them for their skill in alchemy, forcing Edward to join the military to advance the man's ambitions and to set a game with the Fuhrer.
Struggling to survive is all Ed knows. Distrustful of his military superior, beaten down by Hohenheim, and constantly worried for his brother, he somehow starts to find place with Mustang's Team.
