Summary
Shoto Todoroki can't seem to shake a thought that's been bothering him lately, and when the sobs and repressed memories strip away his rationality and leave him raw, the notion becomes much more appealing. Drowning in a haze of exhaustion, he can't seem to recall why he keeps on fighting, why living with the pain is somehow better than escaping it. For once, he doesn't put much thought into going through the motions.
Unfortunately, it seems he doesn’t have control over any facet of his life, not even his own death.
OR Shoto tries to kill himself, Kirishima is observant, Midoriya is roped into the fray, Aizawa is protective of his kids, and Class 1-A does their best to shower Todoroki with love and fluff.

His eyes rolled heavenward, black with desperation, a silent plea for strength from an indifferent God, blood instead of prayer all his tongue could yield.
"Fitting, don't you think? The Queen of Torments for committing treason with the Queen of France?"
It started as a small fill, and has grown organically into something resembling an actual plot with character analysis, anatomical research, attempts at historical accuracy, and a hint of the history of opium poppies.

Summary
During the Second World War, members of the Axis started experimenting on Nation Avatars, marking the worse case of dehumanization the Nations have ever faced. After the war, the Soviet Union decides to continue the research founded by the Axis powers on their newly acquired satellite states. The experiments, as well as other actions taken during the war, drive the Nations to begin to question who they are as people, and whether or not they should blindly trust their governments. Their decisions cause them to go behind their governments' backs to fight for what they think is right, as well as lead to their own self-discoveries. (Historical!Hetalia that takes place during the Cold War. Real life events will be followed. Human and country names used. Many characters will be in the story, but only the most important are tagged.)
