“Okay, now go sit over there,” Peter instructs, pointing to the armchair. “Where the sun is.”
“Me?” Ben says, raising an eyebrow.
“You’re my subject, Uncle Ben. Come on! It’s the golden hour! You gotta hurry, before we lose the light!”
“So you were paying attention last week,” Ben chuckles as he drops into the chair. He leans forward, elbows on his knees. “You got your shot all lined up? You want me to do a fancy pose or anything?”
Peter peeks through the viewfinder at Ben, in his worn jeans and his favourite plaid shirt with the sleeves rolled up, his sandy hair perpetually rumpled no matter how many times he smooths it down and a warm smile creasing his broad face all the way up to the corners of his kind brown eyes. “No,” he decides, “Just stay exactly like that, okay?”
“Okay, honey,” Ben says. “I will.”

“Tony," Rhodes groans, "I am begging you. Please just explain your thought process to me, man. I want to understand where you’re at.”
“Well, honey bear, it’s simple. Kid needs a home. I have a home. I need another pair of hands to help take care of this baby. The kid has hands.”
“Yeah, okay.” Rhodes rolls his eyes. “You didn’t answer my first question. What makes you think he’ll even want to live with you?”
Tony raises an eyebrow. “I told you,” he says, as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world, “Morgan likes him, and he likes Morgan. Plus, we bonded. In space.”
“Okay!” Rhodes throws up his hands in resignation. “Okay. I give up. Whatever. Adopt Spider-Man. Jesus Christ."

Peter survives the Snap only to find he's alone once again, and Tony Stark steps off the Benatar to find James Rhodes holding his month-old daughter with Pepper nowhere in sight. At first it's an arrangement of convenience and mutual grief. Someday, God willing, it might become a family.

Summary
“You know. Spider-Man.” Tony takes a nonchalant bite of his pasta.
“Who?” Pepper repeats.
“It’ll come to you, honey.”
Suddenly, it does. “The creepy sticky one!” Pepper exclaims, with a snap of her finger. “How does he do that, anyways?”
“Oh, wait till I relay that little gem, he’ll die of embarrassment,” Tony guffaws.
Pepper frowns. “Why? He’s probably heard worse. If you’re going to crawl around in spandex you’ve got to have a thicker skin than that.”
“He’s young,” Tony says airily, waving his hand. “He’ll grow into it.”
That’s nice, Pepper thinks. Mentoring a young superhero seems pretty harmless, out of all the things Tony could be using to distract himself right now.

“Good lord, Potts,” May says. She reaches over to dig her spoon into Pepper’s mint chocolate chip ice-cream. “I think we’re friends.”
Getting ice-cream together at a cute little parlor in the Bronx and trading theories about who killed Jason Blossom on Riverdale isn’t just a routine touch-base, Pepper realizes. It’s a friend thing. They’re doing a friend thing.
“Wow,” is all she can say. “We are.”

Peter is there, slumped over the kitchen island, slowly cramming spoonfuls of Double Chocolate Cookie Crisp into his mouth, hair tousled and sticking up every which way, and Tony realizes with sudden clarity that he’s fighting a losing battle. Maybe not today, maybe he can put it off for a while, but someday he’s just going to have to give up and love this ridiculous kid.

In which Tony Stark learns object lessons about love, sacrifice, death, friendship, and parenthood; and makes his peace with the unfortunate reality that his penthouse will be crawling with asshole teenagers every weekend for the foreseeable future. Follows canon...loosely. Ahem.
