“Nirei,” Kakuichi said softly, leaning closer. “You’re the closest one to him. Surely you know what to do…”
“Ah… don’t put all your hopes on me,” Nirei replied, shoulders slumping. “Suo-san is close to him too.” He sighed, glancing toward the empty seat near Sakura. “If only he were here…”
A restrained sigh passed through the group, careful not to grow too loud. Everyone remembered their absent vice captain, who was currently out of town, visiting his master after a long time apart. According to Suo himself, he wouldn’t be back for another week.
A whole week.
No one was sure they could survive Sakura’s unpredictable mood swings for that long just to finally ask Suo what to do. And worse—
What if Suo didn’t know either?
The thought alone sent a chill down their spines.
If Sakura’s mood swings weren’t temporary…if this became permanent…every single one of them knew they were doomed.

When Tsubaki tried to crush him in a hug after a job well done, Suo replaced himself with Nirei so fast no one even saw it happen.
As Nirei lay crumpled on the floor, soul leaving his body, Tsubaki laughed and said, “Guess I’ll keep my hands to myself, huh?”
