She buries her face against his, embarrassed and overwhelmed, and hears herself make a small noise. His grip on her becomes tighter. “Oh, honey.” She feels the curve of his muscles against the back of her head, strong and bigger than she remembers. When he tugs at her leg, her whole body moves, like she’s some weightless little thing and not a grown woman. It sends a spark of heat through her gut.
“They have you on some special training program back there?” She manages, smiling into his skin.
Rick pulls away slightly to look at her face. He’s got his own grin hanging, though it’s a bit incredulous. “You sayin’ I haven’t always been jacked?”

Summary
Rick and Michonne are both assertive people with dominant personalities. They’re the same in that way, equal in their strength, their ability to lead, and their fire as well. It’s a trait of survival, the firmness that has to go along with the do-anything desperation if the do-anything desperation is actually going to mean anything. Many times over the span of their blurry and bending relationship, they’ve crossed hard with each other because of this. Now, though, in the heat of their love and comfort, and in the calm years after the Saviors, it’s become a pleasure to see who’ll win.
It’s a bit of a coin toss each time. Neither of them has a hard time swallowing their “losses.”
