I have an apostrophe problem. According to the metal gates that guard my house, I live in Victors’ Village. It is supposed to belong to more than one victor. I grab a wrench and climb up the gates. They are decorated with metal vines that act as footholds. I cannot get an angle to knock down the apostrophe exclusively, so I end up bending the S as I lever the punctuation out of place. That does not matter. I wedge the wrought-iron apostrophe where it belongs, right after the R.
I live in Victor’s Village.
Alone.
Note: This fic was written before SOTR, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that carries on two rather specific major thematic elements of SOTR (details in endnote). It does not contain SOTR spoilers.

Summary
At age fourteen, Finnick is being sold to Snow's close associates in secret, knowing that any failure to comply will result in his family's deaths. After a horrifying first appointment, Finnick finds himself unable to stop resisting his clients. Haymitch tries to help him gain control, without doing more damage.
"I was brought to the home of my first client. There was…a degree of violence that is never allowed. After that, I couldn’t stop resisting, even though I knew what the consequences would be. I was fighting real clients on real appointments. That’s why it was my tutor’s job to get me to a place where I could tolerate what was being done to me without triggering Snow’s punishment, and to get me there as quickly as possible."

It’s not every day that you score a career-defining interview. Standing at the foot of the Tribute Centre, currently housing one of the most coveted Victors of our time, I certainly feel a little out of my depth and very sharply recognise that I’m at the cusp of making or breaking.
I can only hope that Finnick Odair is as gracious, gregarious, and good-natured in person as he comes off on TV, because if true, that would make this the easiest interview of my career without a doubt. It’s three days after Finnick’s Victory Special, broadcast to the entirety of Panem, who eagerly tuned in for what became one of the most watched events in recent memory.
Of course, just as attendance at the Victory Tour is mandatory, as is viewing of the Victory Special, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t lowlifes who try to shirk their responsibility to the Capitol. It’s a tragedy, really—you miss such wonderful scenes as Finnick re-enacting his most gripping kills to an astonished studio audience, even managing to elicit a rare gasp from the seasoned Caesar.

This story is also a love letter to all the books I read growing up, to Asbury Park, with a little side of She-Hulk. It also addresses what the Avengers were up to during Iron Man 3.
