He tries. He really, truly, tries.
The first attempt, he doesn’t change much. A few extra meetings here, a few conversations there, but, mostly, he tries to keep on track. He watches Lysandre, his dearest friend, over coffee in cafés and dinners shared at their homes, and tries to understand, just a little more, how his story would come to end that way.
The Ultimate Weapon blooms, and erupts, and he tries again.

It's been five years since the whole thing with Team Flare, and Serena is thriving. Everything's alright, there's nothing anyone needs to worry about, so why shouldn't she travel? Galar, Alola, Paldea; she's been all over the place, side-by-side with her Pokémon, battling every trainer that challenges her. That's the point of a journey, right? Becoming stronger. She has to get stronger – after all, what good's a Champion who can't protect her region?
Staring at the walls of her room in Hotel Z, she asks herself that question over and over again.
