However, the town sits atop a large freshwater aquifer, one of only a few in No Man's Land, and a group of water barons in a nearby city have set their sights on it. With hired guns harassing the town and legal options running out, the threat violence will be brought down on this town like a boot on a throat grows every day.
Nicholas D. Wolfwood knows Vash will run headlong into the brewing fight, and he also knows he'll follow Vash into it. He knows Vash will trust Nicholas to guard his back. Like Nicholas is someone worth trusting. He'll follow Vash anywhere, even to his end.

But the weight of Wolfwood’s hand on his forehead opened up the gulf between the click of the second hand, and Vash was falling, falling, falling, through endless milliseconds of blinding light as a bell tone rang in his bones and started to vibrate outwards--

"I don't like the way other demons smell... but you, when I smell you..." Vash brazenly inhales the scent of Wolfwood's neck, breathing out in a sigh over his skin that makes his hair stand on end. "You smell nothing like them." Vash licks up his neck with that long, broad tongue, and Wolfwood's knees go weak, his breath hissing against his teeth. Vash's grip tightens, keeping him stable.
"Wh... what do I smell like?" he asks, because now he has to know.
"The way you smell makes me want to devour you," Vash tells him on a captivated breath, and for a split second, Wolfwood swears he sees red flash in Vash's irises in his periphery.

Summary
Wolfwood raises an eyebrow over the frame of his sunglasses, suddenly emboldened, “I know every trick in the book, Spikey. They brought you to me for a reason.”
Vash actually laughs at that, a full-bodied giggle of glee that ripples through him. He picks up his drink and finishes it in two swallows, pulling the maraschino cherry out of the bottom of the glass and popping it in his mouth. “Seems like it,” he says, swallowing the fruit. Vash fishes a paper out of his pocket and slides it across the table at Wolfwood.
“What’s this?” Wolfwood asks, picking up the paper. It’s a – business card? Printed up at the top in metallic gold ink are the words Vash the Stampede and the card is blank white except for a simply printed email and phone number.
“Sorry we can’t play tonight,” Vash says, but his face looks anything but apologetic, “I’m a busy guy, Wolfwood! We can negotiate over email, right?”

Wolfwood is squinting inside, trying to figure out what the fuck a “chocolate haystack” is supposed to be, when there’s another clatter and someone stumbles out of the back room.
Wolfwood’s first thought is, Damn, he’s cute. And he is—big blue eyes, a riot of blond spikes he wants to run his fingers through, a sheepish smile.
Wolfwood’s second thought, the one he verbalizes, is, “Oh my god no.” Because the guy is wearing a red apron and, above a couple brightly-colored pins, a black and white paisley bandana.
The guy snorts and says, pointedly, “Howdy.”

He knew what Vash’s kisses tasted like.
Urgency. Wet, fast, and deep. Salty with sweat and sometimes even coppery with blood. The smell of gun smoke so pungent, their tongues dance around it in every flicker.
They also taste like whiskey and laughter, and Wolfwood swears he can taste Vash’s dimples. He’d never thought he could ever associate a smile to a taste, or such a joyful feeling to a person.
Other times, they taste like a secret and a dark alley. He tastes the words that get stuck in his throat as Vash’s lips steal the gasp right out of his mouth. He tastes the cigarette he chooses keep his mouth busy with after Vash decides to leave his lips alone and wander off like nothing happened.
But beyond Wolfwood’s comprehension, for the past few days, their kisses have tasted like something entirely different.
Vash’s kisses taste sinful.
(A story about how the sinner Nicholas D. Wolfwood, burdened with guilt, slowly unlearns his toxic religious mindset and lets himself love the way he deserves.)

Wolfwood’s eyes lingered at the exposed silver of Vash’s stomach. There must be something wrong with him, it wasn’t normal to feel and think like that from the mere sight of a little skin displayed so innocently. It made his palms sweaty and the tips of his fingers feel weirdly tingly. The heat under his skin certainly was just a byproduct of the hot shower.
He wanted to touch so badly. Feel Vash’s skin under his fingers when his touch didn’t connect to pain. But instead, maybe, it could even bring something else. He had stolen a few not so appropriate glances at Vash on the rare occasion he was sure enough to get away with it. Now Vash was looking at him, eyes dark with something Wolfwood didn’t dare to name yet. Hungry, almost like he wanted to devour him.
Vash had never looked at him like that before

“You had it on the whole time,” Vash explained, playing with it, “One of the kids must have put it on you while you were having a snooze.”
His face lifted and brightened with a pulse of light.
“You were really cute.”Nicholas and Vash's relationship is made of silences and words unspoken; this is an immovable truth that persists in every universe. However, fate proves powerless in the face of their bond: it might have torn them, it might have crushed their love in so many different worlds and universes, but it can't do anything in the face of Vash's determination. And one Vash has had enough - he tries to avert this fate.
