“Whoa, what are you doing?” He asks, slapping Lance’s hand away, cheeks warm.
“You,” Lance starts, pointing at him (and Keith notices that for all he’s made fun of him for the last forever for them, he’s wearing his fingerless gloves), “are not screwing up my skin care routine, man.”

“I like you,” Lance says in a rush.
Keith blinks.
“That is—” Lance clears his throat, shifting his weight uncomfortably. His hands are still in his pockets, his shoulders still hunched. “I like you—I like-like you. Like, in a more-than-friends-way like you.”
For a long moment Keith can only stare at him, astonishment and disbelief and cautious delight warring for dominance. And then, because he’s an idiot, because he spent a whole goddamn year in a goddamn shack in the middle of the goddamn desert and has no idea how to be a socially competent person, because he’s Keith, he says, “That was a lot of the word ‘like’ in one sentence.”
In which Keith has about a dozen chances at happiness, and sabotages (nearly) all of them.

Plot twist, n. a literary technique that introduces a radical change in the direction or expected outcome.
The problem starts because of this: Keith brings guys home sometimes. At first Lance thought he was okay with it, since it’s not really his business who Keith sleeps with. He’s usually discreet enough about it that Lance won’t see/hear anything he wouldn’t want to see/hear from anyone else. But for some reason, Lance has started feeling weird if he even sees him with other guys.
Plot twist: Turns out, Lance didn’t have a problem with Keith kissing guys as long as it was Lance he was kissing.Series

“A drive that’s over thirty hours.”

“To clean out a storage container of your dead mother, that you have never met, that is now legally under your name.”
“Correct.”
Lance wondered if Keith had lost his mind.
“Keith, there could be dead bodies in that storage container!” He argued. “Or a meth lab. Or worse, mannequins dressed up like dolls sat at a tea party or some weird shit like that.”
Keith offered him an unimpressed blink. “I’ll be fine.”
“Keith, this is insane. You can’t go by yourself!”
Keith glanced at him as he shouldered his backpack.
“Come with me then.”
And that small, damned smirk tilted Keith’s lips as he held Lance’s gaze.
“What do you think, Lance?” He asked. “2,251 miles. Think you could handle it?”
Lance stopped short.
Contemplated.
And, well. Lance had nothing to do either.
So. That’s how this all started.Two disasters drive cross-country to clean out a storage container that may have dead bodies hidden inside and, hey, maybe a bit of love as well.

“This would be a pretty sweet place for an ambush, actually,” Lance says softly. Keith follows his eyes, squinting at the mass of dust that reaches almost to the walls, like a roiling, smoky ceiling.
“We already scanned the place, and it’s a ghost town,” Keith says, slipping free of Lance’s grip and forging ahead. “Plus we’re nowhere near the base yet.”
“Right,” Lance says, but he’s tapping his helmet and opening up communications anyway, following Keith at a distance. “Hey guys, anyone else feelin’ that warm and fuzzy ‘I’m being watched' feeling?”prompt: Lance jumps in and takes a bullet for Keith when they're separated from the group, and it seems like a fairly minor wound, but the bullet was poisoned, and now Keith has to get Lance back to the castle.

Keith stiffened and when he looked up again there was a hardened and steely look in his gaze, marching past Shiro and directly into the living room where the nervous pillar still waited. “I’m ready.” He said directly, staring into Lance’s face with what could only be described at earnest determination.
“O-Oh. Right. Hey, um.” Lance flicked his gaze away while they backed up towards the front door, “You look amazing.” His voice was unbelievably fond, if not stressed to get the words out, and Keith looked frozen when he registered the compliment. His face darkened and hands fumbled at nothing.
“Thanks.” He eventually croaked.
