"I should've known," Shane said as he looked down at the culmination of months' worth of signs he had ignored. He looked down at the baby girl in his arms and wondered how broken he was not to notice. His ignorance could have hurt his daughter.
"How could you have? We are both omegas. It was unlikely," Ilya attempted to reassure him.
"But not impossible."
"No." Ilya reached his hand out, softly resting his thumb on their daughter's cheek. A smile spread on his face as she lightly stirred and, for a moment, Shane could not recognize the man in front of him. He had never seen Ilya allow himself to be vulnerable like this and show his emotion so plainly on the surface. His heart clenched. It was his daughter's father, not Ilya, that murmured, "Obviously not impossible."

“I… didn’t expect you to be so brazen about your sex life, now that we are married and all.” Despite himself, Shane blushed a little—in his shock, he spoke like a jealous wife.
“Ah,” Ilya nodded. “You are confused. Marriage is on paper. I do what I want, you do what you want, yes?”
And so, Shane was dismissed into his new chambers, beginning his married, incredibly lonely life.

Summary
Shane is finally honest with himself and brave enough to tell Ilya how he feels in Tampa. Then he gets a call from Rose that rewrites everything he thought was possible for him and Ilya.
--“I get that Rose, I really do, but at this point I’m just going to worry about you and all the things it could be and drive myself crazy. Can you just say it, please? I know that’s probably not fair to ask, but I'm asking.”
Rose let out a dry chuckle. “I should have known you would get me to spit it out. You’re alone, right? Sitting down?” her voice sounded almost dead.
“Um, yeah, hold on.” Shane at some point had gotten up and started pacing. He sat back down on the hotel bed. He heard Rose take a deep breath, and he held himself perfectly still.
“Shane, well… fuck, there’s really no way around just saying it, is there? Okay. Fuck."
Shane didn't move. Didn't breathe.
"I’m pregnant.”
