Lucy stirs, mumbling something in her sleep, shifting so her head lolls the other way. There’s a strand of hair stuck to her cheek and he brushes it gently away, thumb smoothing over the imprint of the armchair’s material on her sleep-flushed skin.
When he straightens up, George is staring at him impassively from the doorway.
“What?” He whispers defensively.
“Nothing.” George says as he makes his way to the stairs. “Just remembering this for next time I fall asleep down here and you shove me off the sofa.”

Summary
After a lazy hour listening to the muttering of her friends, Lucy dozed to the feeling of the warm sunlight casting on the room and the lull of safety, of Portland Row. She woke again to the feeling of a repetitive poke in the arm, trying to shake it off.
“Hey? Luce, come on. You’re gonna hurt your back, sleeping like this.” She cracked one eye open, took a deep inhale, and went to stand.
Her vision blacked out and the tips of her body felt like static fuzz. Her legs bent and wobbled as small spots came back and she could see–feel arms around her torso. She leaned into the warm body until she felt stable, pulling back and looking up. Lockwoods eyes were already on her face, scanning her for any signs that she’d fall again. Her fingers dug into his lapel, breathing fast and sharp.
“I’m okay. I’m okay. Jus’ stood up too fast.” Her tongue felt like a piece of cotton sticking inside her mouth.

She stepped in closer to Lockwood, close enough to touch. Carefully, tentatively, she reached out and lay a hand on his shoulder, feeling it shake with the force of his quiet sobs. Watching him cry made her want to cry too. But he wasn’t shying away from her touch now, so she tried for more. She stepped right up to him, laying her other hand on the opposite shoulder.
Suddenly, viper fast, his arms were around her waist, and he was pulling her in. His wet face pressed into her stomach, and his arms were bands of iron about her body.
“Shh,” she mumbled, and stroked his hair, the way she used to when comforting him after a nightmare. “Sh, Lockwood, I’m here. It’s okay.”

They were meant for the dark of the nights, the fire in the stars and the iciness of the river. Whatever this was, it wasn’t ready to see daylight. Lucy could see the exact moment that his eyes changed. Harden like the cold of winter they had endured, and hidden behind an invisible haze of smoke.
The usuals of ghost fights, humour and lots of angst. Lost moments of the Black Winter. This was part of my old work of one-shots of Midnight Thames before I separated it for something very exciting that I've been working on!

No. He shook his head to banish the thoughts. No. He wasn’t going there right now. He couldn’t go there right now. No time, no time.
Still his chest tightened, his ribs constricting his heart, his brain crying out for more oxygen, more air.
Even the side of her face was cold, despite being drenched in sweat. A bump jerked the vehicle and she grimaced.
“It’s okay, Luce,” he whispered. “It’s okay, we’re almost there. You’re going to be okay.”

Haine held on for a moment longer, then had the gall to look sheepish as she slowly pulled away. “Oh, I’m so sorry, Mr Lockwood! I could’ve sworn I saw something move out of the corner of my eye, and oh, it looked awful, and I knew I could count on you to protect me from it.”
When Lockwood & Co. are called out on a case involving a jealousy-ridden Visitor, Lucy is forced to confront her own tangle of feelings and why it bothers her so much to see someone shamelessly flirt with her boss.

After a routine job forces the past down her throat -- literally -- Lucy's got to figure out why she's coughing up flower petals before she suffocates from them. Add in George, stuck in a research whirlwind, Lockwood, kept purposefully in the dark, and Kipps, who'd happily be anywhere but in the middle of it all, and Lucy's only sure of one thing: she's really, really sick of daisies.
Or, Lucy's refusal to acknowledge her feelings for Lockwood might just kill her. And that's if actually acknowledging them doesn't kill her first.
