The figure moved their head slightly, Chiron still couldn’t see their face. „Hello.“ They replied. „Did Hermes send you?“
Chiron frowned. „No.“
They hummed and turned back towards the window.
„Who are you?“ While he sensed no maliciousness coming from them, Chiron was weary of this stranger appearing seemingly out of nowhere.
They leaned their head from side to side, humming, then answered: „For now I am your Oracle.“

Once Charlie was close enough to look over his shoulder, she had to stifle a gasp. Between the rubble, debris and dust she hadn’t recognized what he was holding. Resting on his lap, cradled in his arms like a child, was Rosie. Her face was smeared with dust and blood. One of her eyes was swollen. A trail of blood was drying between her nose and her lips. Her breath was quick and shallow.
Alastor growled, his voice full of static. „What do you want, Charlotte?“
Charlie startled a little. „We came to help, what hap-“

Had Odysseus… abandoned him? Surely not. Surely Odysseus wouldn’t just leave him behind… Would he? Why? Why ever would he leave his best friend for dead? Why would the rest of the crew allow him to? Polites knew he was well liked, he kept a friendship with almost every man on the ship. So why? Why leave him behind in a cyclops’ cave to die? Had he done something wrong? Had he upset Odysseus by accident? Was it because of the Lotus Eaters? Was it because he had led them to the cyclops?
But… surely Odysseus would not leave him for dead for that. Right?
Polites watched the isle of Ithica grow closer and closer on the horizon as they approached. He would get his answers soon enough.---
In which Polites is thought dead and left behind, manages to get home long before Odysseus, accidentally infiltrates the royal family and adopts the crown prince.
