The year is 1289. Ghost, a sword for hire, saves the life of a Scottish tradesman, Andrew MacTavish, and almost gets a spouse out of it. It probably would have gone fine, weren't it for the fact that he and his Scottish near-betrothed are supposed to escort the same merchant from London to Exeter.

After Las Almas and the mess with Hassan Soap feels like he's drifting. Leave is not working for him and he keeps thinking about his Lieutenant. Way too much. After one more night of restless sleep Soap decides to visit Ghost in Manchester.
Soap needed to know Ghost was alright. He just needed to see him, to hear his voice even for a short moment. Fuck, he’d be happy to buy Ghost a few drinks just for the relief of being in his company for a while. Soap realised he missed what they’d had in that safe house; when Ghost came to wake him up and he’d been able to feel Ghost’s breath, hot and wet through the mask on his skin as he’d checked Soap’s gear, a gloved hand brushing softly along his arm, right under the bandaged bullet wound. Ghost’s touch had felt like a brand, like the sting of his knife. Like it meant something. Like Soap could be his.

Summary
Soap's been dreaming of becoming a boxer since he was a teen, beginning when he saw an in-person fight between The "Ghost" and a rival opponent. Since then he's been working on himself, desperately wanting to become a boxer. A boxer like "Ghost".
But he was broke. Only having recently moved out of his mom's house, and was working a minimum wage job to get by. No money means no Coach, and no Coach means no career.
That is, until Soap spots a dark broad figured man in the gym he attends, going at it with a punching bag. His moves are sharp, clean, calculative, something of a caliber only someone with years of experience and a professionalism that was hard to obtain.
So of course, Soap approaches him.
" 'Ya owe me a spar,' Soap replied simply.
'Don't remember agreein' to that,' the man rumbled. "

He wasn't even sure he'd have a fucking job when he returned, wasn’t sure he wouldn’t be court-martialed on sight, not with the way he’d left. But then, he didn’t really care, did he? Didn’t really know if he’d return, anyway. Didn’t know if he’d survive the rejection he feared was waiting for him at 91 Broughton Street, flat number 609.

Simon Riley, captain of the Manchester Soldiers, is one of the best goal scorers in the entire premier league. For some reason, however, he cannot score a goal against John MacTavish to save his life. It's driving him a little mad at this point.
When John gets booted from his team for a "breach of contract" Simon does his best to be professional, to welcome his new goalie. That's what good captains do. It's just a shame MacTavish is such an arrogant prick.
