"We don't sell the fish for you to feed them to your cats."
Startled, Lin Ling nearly upends the basket he's holding as he jerkily twists to face the cashier, who's leveling a very impressive judgemental stare at him over the top of her magazine. The overreaction doesn't score him any points given the brow raise and the harsh slant of her mouth.
"I'm not— I wouldn't do that, I just—" Lin Ling runs a hand shakily through his hair, fumbling for an excuse. "What, uh. What kind of fish is this? I've never seen it before."
The cashier narrows her eyes. "The placard below the tank should tell you."
There is indeed a placard below the tank. He sees the price first — whether or not it's expensive he has no idea, the only fish he's ever bought have already been cooked — then the small line of text beneath that, which reads:
Nice fish. Labroides perfectus.
This has to be a joke.

Lin Ling was almost certain he was having a strangely realistic dream as the not-quite-a-fish swam towards him, its stubby little legs pushing harder as it began swimming circles around him, and despite how hard he tried, Lin Ling couldn't stop the laughter bubbling up inside him from escaping.

Damian Wayne watched the scene from the front window preening at her words. His position gave him a perfect view of the city, and the bright bolt of light the striked near the docks, quickly plunging every surrounding building into a blackout.
Peter Parker woke up burning and mournful and angry surrounded by a sky the color of concrete and buildings that towered over his bruised body. A damp pamphlet laid in front of him. "Welcome to Gotham"

This is my first fic and I have like no writing experience. I'm using my phone so the formatting might be weird but I really hope it isn't. Uh I don't know like anything about DC (sorry) but I'll do as much research as possible and I hate infrequent updates from people so I'll try as much as possible but I have a really busy schedule.
