Freshly scarred and adrift from Kinloch hold, Cullen and sister-in-arms Lux step into their new life in the Gallows, a sea of new Templars who only know them from the stories that followed them from their circle, the whispers of demons and possession, of being broken.
Cullen had always found Lux unnerving and difficult to talk to. But here, she is the only one who will speak to him, and so they cling to each other.
At least there's Samson, who's the only one who extends a hand to show them the ins and outs of their new world. And if he breaks a few rules or steals a few extra vials of lyrium, that's a small price for no longer being lonely.
