In my previous fic, Engineer Mark was pulled into the portal created by the warp core. His landing destination was into the Iron Lung, with Simon. But what if the reverse happened? What if Simon was pulled into the portal? He had just been sent into the blood, just scanned through the manual. But he hasn't used the camera. No radiation poisoning. He was hurled through the blue portal, into the Invincible II.

Summary
Simon returns as a ghost and begins haunting COI. Ava comes face to face with her own frail mortality, her mind decaying along her DNA. After finding out that the black box Simon managed to save is too badly irradiated to get any kind of information out of, Ava has to send yet another convict down, to make sure that Simon did not die for nothing. Down below a God lies waiting.
This is a dissection of what the fear does to the mind. Desperation, resilience, cruelty, kindness, despair and hope are all found here.This is a tragedy and it ends tragically. I attempted treating Ava as human as Simon, painting them both with terrible mistakes and attempts at fortitude.

Summary
The convict- Simon.
His name was Simon, and some part of Ava hated that she knew it now because The Convict was a criminal, a murderer - a butcher, some said.But Simon - Simon - was a person, who had parents and had a childhood, and had a voice that shook and quivered and broke as it yelled at her through a shitty microphone - "You sent me to die down here, and you don't even know my name?" - and Simon was clever, and Simon's amalgamated ship of spare metal had somehow moved off their plotted map, and yet he had found the coordinates for the lost SM-8 and had begged her to set him free for it's data.
Simon - the one responsible for the destruction of the Filament Station, the one who's life was in her hands - was an enigma of data versus emotion in her brain.
Simon wasn't talking.

Summary
He focuses on her voice over the pain and rapidly dwindling oxygen. It sounds like she’s walking as she speaks—he can hear her footsteps. She says he’s earned his freedom. More than that, he’s a hero. She tells him it’s a good day: for humanity, for him. He wants to believe her.
The footsteps stop. A moment of silence, and then—“Why isn’t he out yet?”
OR
Simon gets the data. True her word, Ava pulls him out. It’s not necessarily over after that.

When Simon first arrived here nearly four years ago, he’d thought Eden’s overflowing pride for this tree was… Nonsensical. Stupid. Moronic. There were plenty of trees back home on Mars, after all. Why should this one matter so much? What was there to be proud of?
Then came the Quiet Rapture, and Mars and every tree on it disappeared in the blink of an eye, along with every star in the universe and nearly every other celestial body too. Suddenly Eden’s tree became the only tree in the entirety of spacetime. Suddenly, everyone’s pride turned into obsession.
Suddenly, a bracelet containing a small leaf from the tree dangled from Simon’s wrist, a bracelet Father Rory made him swear never to remove, lest he face eternal damnation for abandoning the cause.
