The woman looks up upon hearing the door open, and her face shifts through several emotions within the span of a handful of seconds, before landing on apprehension. She takes a few moments to stare at the crowd pouring out of the galley, then to the rest of the ship. Her eyes eventually land on the black flags flying high, their jolly roger out loud and proud. The mystery woman pales.

"Chopper! Come look at this!”
“Coming!” He chirps, hopping out of the tall canvas tent, and hurrying over to where Doctor Hiriluk kneels at the edge of the river where they’ve made their camp for the night. “What is-?”
“Shh,” his mentor shushes, grinning as he gestures to something on the opposite bank. “Look there!”
Chopper looks. It takes a moment, but then he registers movement, an indistinct shape of green and brown flickering through the trees. A large indistinct shape. “What is that, Doctor?”
“A banderbear,” his mentor whispers, still grinning. “One of the rarest sights to be found in the Deepwoods."

Ace took a long time to wrap his head around the idea of ‘soulmarks’.
Dadan did a shitty job of explaining, when he was little, and could finally put into words the confusion about the black lines on his skin. Gramps did worse, on his next visit, which meant Ace just put the whole subject into the same box inside his head labelled Shit to Not Talk About.
Sabo, though. Sabo finally helped him get it. And not with stupid tangled words, either.
