Summary
There was silence for a moment, and Laura kept dangling her leg outward, practicing at its angles- seductive, childish, coquettish, painful. Then she said, “I hate it when you try to understand me.”
It was such a Laura thing to say. “Why?”
“Because it means you’re trying to think like me, and I don’t want you to think the way I do,” Laura said. “Besides, only people who love you try to understand you.”

"Are you a fucking idiot?" Zosia snaps. "If you want to kill yourself, fine—good, actually—but don't take me out with you."
Carol scoffs. "I—well, first of all, you're fucking welcome."
"What?"
"For getting you out?"

“Helen knew how… scared you were. She didn’t want to spook you, which is why she waited. She loved you after knowing you for only a few months, but knew if she took that step forward, you would…”
“But I didn’t,” Carol said. “I didn’t run.”
“No,” Zosia said quietly. “You didn’t.”

Summary
Breakup sex had never really been Carol’s style. She liked a clean cut, a scalpel’s edge, mostly because she was the one doing the breaking and her exes had never been that interested in trying to fight for her. So maybe her lack of experience in that arena was why she found herself intertwined with Zosia not even an hour after the illusion had been shattered.
Carol is bad at breakups. Time to save the (girl) world about it.

Summary
“We can help,” Zosia said, suddenly right behind her. Carol jumped, then relaxed when she felt Zosia’s hand rest on her back. “Here,” she whispered.
Her fingers were cool as she brushed the hair away from Carol’s face, soothing in their slow pace, their gentle touch. Carol winced as the room began to spin, and Zosia pouted.
“Shh, Carol,” she murmured. Carol whined, but Zosia just guided her by the back while she cooed. “Let us help.”
(carol gets too drunk. zosia takes care of her.)

Summary
For only a second, and maybe she imagined it, Carol thought she saw a glimmer of the most human expression Zosia had worn yet: annoyance.
“And you’ll still be working on reversing this?” Zosia asked.
“We wouldn’t be very good heroes if we didn’t, now would we?”

Summary
Carol drew near and loomed over the unresisting woman. Zosia’s eyes, delicate and expectant, looked up at her. She looked tall from down here. Imposing, even. It was apt for a personality as big as hers. The world shrank under the weight of it.
“Zosia,” Carol said. Slow, like she was pronouncing it for the first time. “Do you know that you’re pretty?”

Summary
“At least you are consistent with your body horror tropes,” she mumbles, disturbed and intrigued for the wrong reasons all at once. If she lingers any longer on that matter, she might have to wipe off her just eaten breakfast from the kitchen floor.
Zosia says nothing to that. Why would the Venus flytrap be concerned with the fly it has already successfully trapped?

Summary
“What do you all dream about, anyway,” Carol asked.
“Colors,” Zosia said. “And language, sound. Architecture.”
Carol lifted her head. “Architecture?”
Zosia either smiled with just one side of her mouth — which was new — or Carol could only see one side — which was also new. In either case, her own mouth felt dry.
“Systems,” Zosia said. “Simplicity. We’re interested in continuity.”
