the funniest and most concise encapsulation of elden ring ever.

"Ranni heaved a sigh, looking at the ceiling to spare herself the agony of looking at her family. “Do you have clues to share with the class, or are we meant to sit here and blindly point fingers?”

    “Yes,” said Marika.

    Everyone waited.

She paused. “I apologize, that was unclear. Yes, I mean for you to sit here and blindly point fingers.”"

    Bookmarker's Notes

A dark and compelling series that slots into canon disturbingly well. It still sometimes creeps into my thoughts at odd hours of the night.

Excerpt from No Good Man: "The smell of it burns in Arthur’s nostrils. He is a thin line of tension and terror, of barely contained rage. He hates those men for what they did to John, who even now is still little more than a boy. Hates John, too, for thinking that Dutch is anything like those sick fucks – Dutch ain’t like them, and what he and Dutch do ain’t like that. It’s special."

Excerpt from Circle, Unbroken: "She’d sat down beside him on the grass, tucking her legs underneath her and handing him the glass of water. He’d swallowed the whole thing in a few desperate gulps, suddenly parched and unreasonably thankful for an excuse not to look at her, not to meet those big brown eyes that saw through so much of him. He’d felt a right miserable fool, beastly and monstrous, and he’d wanted to run from her then. He’d wanted to cry."

Excerpt from Dead and Alive: "Arthur’d flinched when Dutch had raised his hand, but he’d only reached out to rest it on the back of Arthur’s neck; used it to draw him into a soft, suffocating embrace, pressing Arthur’s face into the warm crook of his neck, where the familiar smells of smoke and stale sweat always seemed to live. Dutch’s fingers had curled into the short, fine hair at the nape of Arthur’s neck, not pulling but simply holding him there, keeping him close."

Excerpt from Interstitia: "When Dutch had reached for his sidearm, Arthur’d froze, and some broken, hidden part of him had realized, hysterical and frightened, that this’d been it. This was how he was gunna die. He’d always known, in that deep, black part of his heart, that Dutch would be the death of him, one way or another. But Arthur’d always thought he’d be crushed under the weight of Dutch’s hot, suffocating love – never imagined it would end in cold blood."

    Summary

Eight years have passed since Blackwater, Saint Denis, and the fall of the van der Linde gang. The survivors are trying to make a life for themselves – some moving on to nobler pursuits, some circling back like carrion birds to the scores they left behind.

And outside a town called Purgatory, West Elizabeth, a man wakes up without a scrap of memory or a name, haunted by a black wolf and a golden stag.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This story is such a masterpiece that even if you've never played or heard of rdr2, you should still read it. Genuinely, I am begging you to read it. If you're going on a trip or something in the future where you need something to do, download this story and read it like a novel, because it basically is one. Listen. If I had the skill/time, I would absolutely print this fic out and make it into a physical book, because it straight up deserves to be a physical book. I love this story. Read this story. It's been years since I've played rdr2, but whenever I think about the game, I always think about this fic. I highly recommend it.
