Summary

Given the sheer number of volunteers, no one seriously expected him to get picked, even laughed at the thought, but when the fateful letter arrived in the mail, the laughter halted. It was supposed to be straightforward, walk until you couldn't, but the annoying boy, Johnny Lawrence, who insists on walking next to him is making survival itself harder than it should be. As the walk goes on, as the sun beats down and the boys begin to drop, as Daniel's body starts to break, maybe Johnny Lawrence will become more than an annoyance. Maybe he'll become a lifeline.
