Summary
There were a lot of reasons why Charles Rowland had changed schools. His suffering grades, constant reprimands over being out of dress code and the school’s growing suspicions about his home life were only some of the reasons why Charles’ mother enrolled him in boarding school for sixth form.
There was really only one problem… well two problems, maybe three.

“A deal. You pretend to be my boyfriend for a few weeks, show up at my house, escort me to social functions and such. Your overall person, manner and opinions should be enough to truly scandalise my parents. You will only need to be yourself, only less... charming.”
Charles gave him a bright grin. “You think I’m charming?”
Edwin ignored him. “And I will act all smitten with you. When they offer you the money to break up with me – and rest assured, throwing money at problems is their only way of handling anything – you will take it. I shall be horribly heartbroken to make them feel guilty and any subsequent romantic partner who is a bit more... mellow than you will be quite welcome.”
Charles stared at him, unsure of how he could’ve ever thought of Edwin Payne as innocent. “Damn... you are a conniving little bastard, aren’t you?”-
Charles Rowland's first impression of Edwin Payne can be summerized as privileged, rich and aloof – also incredibly pretty, but that’s besides the point. However, when Edwin presents him with a scheme to piss off his conservative parents and get some money out of them in the process, Charles can’t resist the siren call of causing mayham for some Tories.

Summary
In their attempts to rescue Niko from the Astral Plane, Edwin, Charles, and Crystal accidentally summon a second Charles Rowland from another universe.
Charles never gave much thought to whether he'd get along with an alternate universe version of himself. Technically, he should, this Charles was just like him: funny, clever, kind - a dead boy detective.
Except, this second version of Charles doesn't seem to know how to keep his bloody hands to himself, and off of Edwin.

Summary
Charles takes a love potion to simulate being in love with Edwin only he can’t seem to get it to work.
After Edwin confesses his love to Charles, Charles feels the weight of it all and considers himself the unofficial protector of Edwin’s heart. Charles keeps noticing guys paying a little too much attention to Edwin and figures the tense feeling in his gut is due to the fact that none of them are good enough for Edwin. He comes to the decision that he can’t trust a random guy with Edwin’s heart and the only person he can trust not to break it is himself. Charles decides to take a love potion to make himself be in love with Edwin so they can be together and Edwin will be happy. The only hiccup it doesn’t actually work.

There’s a boy leaning against the fence.
He’s putting most of his weight on it, arms propped up by their elbows and staring with rapt interest at the excavations. It’s been half an hour, now, and he hasn’t moved an inch.
If he hadn’t been otherwise preoccupied with delicately troweling between third-century cobblestones, Edwin might have worried about the boy’s mental state. As it was, he’d been studiously ignoring the way he can feel eyes tracking his every movement.

After Port Townsend, everything goes back to normal. Edwin and Charles fall back into their routine, Crystal easily fitting into the group. The three solve the cases and Crystal forces them to watch shitty television to ‘modernize’ them. One day the agency gets a strange client, a woman who says her friend has disappeared off the face of the earth. More clients come in with the same problem, it seems ghosts are simply vanishing and no one knows why.Then, Charles starts to feel… odd. There’s a voice in his head that tells him to sink into the ground and never come up, and suddenly all he can think about his is grave, his body, and the fact that after 35 years he’s not sure anyone remembers or cares he existed. On top of that, it's getting harder every day to ignore the fact that Charles might just be in love with his best friend.

“Did you just cough up a flower?” Charles interrupts. Flower, perhaps, is a slight exaggeration. It’s more like a petal, red and incredibly out of place here on the shore.
Edwin clears his throat, but this time no petals follow. “Certainly it’s nothing to worry about.”

Edwin breaks an orb that shows a person's greatest dream/desire and absorbs its powers, so now whenever someone touches him he sees their greatest dreams. Unfortunately the dream energy is also making him incredibly loopy and he is doing things and spouting out things he never normally would. His friends try to scramble to find a cure while also making sure Edwin doesn't get into too much trouble, soon finding that an inebriated Edwin is a lot harder to contain than they initially expected.

Charles, at least, looks mildly sheepish.

Summary
After the events of Port Townsend, Charles wants to take Edwin out for a day just as they used to in the old days. Little did he know that such a mundane activity would unearth hidden feelings he wasn’t even aware of…
All things considered, Charles thought he handled it pretty well at the time. Sure, it came unexpectedly, and literally in the worst possible moment, but Charles only had to say the truth and open his heart. That he loved Edwin more than anyone else, he was sure of it. He couldn't even begin to fathom his existence without him. But what this new twist meant for their relationship going forward, well that was a mystery. If it was true that their openness had brought them closer, there were times where Charles had caught Edwin staring at him, longing, before looking away. And it might be stupid but... he hated not being able to give Edwin everything he wanted. Knowing that some part of him was unsatisfied with what they have. God, Charles would rather rip his own heart apart, had he still had one, rather than make Edwin suffer.
