Mira marches like she’s on a mission, slow and methodical until she has Rumi’s back against the mirror wall.
Their height difference is noticeable now, and Rumi has to crane her neck back to look Mira square in the eye. She almost drowns in those simmering pools of dark black, a whimper twisting on her lips before it dives headfirst.
“Did you know… that you’re so damn pretty in these sleeveless shirts?” Mira’s voice is low and seductive, a hint of a growl present as she traces a fingertip along Rumi’s shoulder. The touch is warm, so warm, and it feels like pure electricity as Mira trails that finger along her collar, brushing up and down the bare skin of her neck before it settles right on her sternum. Mira taps her chest lightly but it might as well have felt like a blow of a hammer on her skin. She craves the touch of it, and the thought makes Rumi flush, unfamiliar with asking for such physical affection.
Rumi’s voice quivers as she answers, “R-Really…?”

“Does the lady know Miss Kiramman?” Mrs. Reynolds' voice sounds so pleasantly surprised at the notion. Vi hums, her eyes never leaving the sculpture. She can imagine her now, her sharp cheekbones, full lips and the bluest eyes Vi had ever seen. In the privacy of her own mind, Vi wishes she could see her again. To apologize.
Looking at the statue now, Vi feels like she’s both gazing upon a stranger and a long lost friend. Someone she has admittedly found herself missing and thinking about constantly, wondering what her life would look like if she had answered differently all those months ago. The statue, while beautiful, doesn’t do Caitlyn justice. It doesn’t show the little furrow in her brow when she’s focused, the small, hard fought crinkles in her eyes when Vi had finally managed to get a laugh. It doesn’t show the lines of her face that scream nothing short of crestfallen heartbreak at Vi’s own hand.
“Only a little,” Vi finally replies.
“Do you not think she’s beautiful?” Mrs Reynolds asks.
Vi doesn’t look away from the statue. “She’s stunning.”

She’d take extra notes, attend every optional lecture, even dig into obscure research papers that their professor had only hinted at during office hours. Vi might breeze through on charm and natural talent, but Caitlyn had the power of discipline on her side.
The only problem? Discipline didn’t account for Vi.
They're the best students from their major, and Caitlyn is going insane because Vi never studies and still ends up getting better grades than her, who is running on coffee and sleepless nights 24/7. And they were roommates.
