Summary
Fresh from being fished out of the Potomac, Steve struggles with the revelation (and loss) of Bucky, and deals with his feelings in the only way he knows how: he doesn't. Most days, he tells himself it’ll all be okay, because it has to be.
After moving in with Tony and getting Tony to help him look for Bucky, the cracks in Steve’s veneer begin to show. He throws himself into fights, drinks too much of Thor’s Asgardian mead, wakes up and wishes he never woke up.
Steve doesn’t mean to notice the way Tony’s thigh presses against his when they watch movies together, doesn’t mean to open up to Tony about how he really feels about being Captain America and finding out his best friend is kind of not really dead, doesn’t mean to kiss him, but he does, anyway.
Set post-Winter Soldier & Iron Man 3, and pre-Age of Ultron.

“Like pain? Can I hit you and you won’t feel it?” Rhodey made the attempt to punch Tony’s leg, that was stretched out next to him, but missed by a couple of inches, so he barely scratched the denim of his washed out blue jeans.
“Nah, you idiot,” Tony chuckled, closed his eyes, and laid down next to him.
“I feel pain just fine, I don’t feel emotions.”
“Sounds awesome. How is it?” He wanted to say it. He wanted to say that it meant hearing your mother cry in the bathroom for an hour before she came to your room, faking a smile. It meant worrying glances from doctors, and police on the front porch every other day, because What stops him from snapping and killing everybody?

TITLE: How to Make Friends - T. Stark. - Age 6
OBSERVATION: People do not want to be friends with a know-it-all
HYPOTHESIS: If I act less smart I will make friends.
PREDICTION: If I let Jimmy Francis thinks he's smarter than me he will be my friend.
EXPERIMENT: Gave wrong answer in class when Jimmy had his hand raised too and it was an easy question so he got it right.
RESULT: Jimmy Francis sat with me at lunch after I got the answer wrong and he got it right.
CONCLUSION: Hypothesis confirmed. I will make friends if I'm not so smart.ADDITIONAL RESULT: Jimmy Francis ate the cookie Jarvis packed me.
CONCLUSION 2: Jimmy Francis is a dick.----
35+ years have passed and Tony's still waiting to be proven wrong.
