Summary

He blinked, the image seared onto the back of his eyelids, and when he opened his eyes again, Phoenix was gone.

“It was the nature of the secret that made me unable to trust anyone,” Kaeya said, voice wavering. “It wasn’t you. I trust you now and I trusted you then.”
“I don’t know, Kaeya,” Diluc said finally, shaking his head. “You can’t even trust me to protect you now.”

When the Abyss Order and the Fatui come together for a single purpose, Diluc vows to protect Kaeya at all costs. But Kaeya still can’t trust his former brother, and Diluc doesn’t know if he should ever be trusted with Kaeya’s life again. Needless to say, where the Ragnvindr brothers are concerned, things will always go up in flames.

Just as a hero must die before becoming a legend.
But eventually, every legend would be forgotten in the eternal writing of history. He would have it no other way. For when his name was displayed beneath golden frames and eventually crumbled to dust—when it became one with the soil that would nourish flowers in the future—it meant that he was free. It signified that he could live a different life with a different name.
"What does it mean to become a legend?" The question had spilled from his lips far too many times to count.
It took him centuries of wandering and loss before he found the answer.

Nicole feels no part angel in this moment - right now she is simply a friend to mortals who will live a fraction of her lifespan, and she revels in it. For some of the increasingly frequent moments between a confession and a shared drink she can almost brush her fingers against the understanding that she has been unknowingly chasing ever since Ivanovna died - she brushes her fingers against the shape of love, of a bias born for friends and those close to the heart.
But it is a night of merry-making. There is no place for such a revelation as dangerous as this, not when it concerns Nicole’s death sentence.
Varka clears his throat. “Er. Unfair? I mean, I wouldn’t say it’s unfair, exactly.”

“What—“ is all Kaeya manages to get out before Diluc’s eyes roll back behind his head and his body is slumping forward, as if Diluc made one last ditch effort to make himself fall towards Kaeya. Kaeya manages to catch him before he makes an unpleasant acquaintance with Kaeya’s floor and loops his arms around Diluc’s unconscious body.
“Genuinely, what the fuck?” Kaeya breathes out as he holds an unconscious and bleeding Diluc by his front door and contemplates if this is all just another terrible dream of his.
The wheeze of pain Diluc lets out the next second assures him that no, this is not a bad dream and in fact was his reality right now: holding his estranged adoptive brother with blood running down a gaping wound in his stomach and ruining Kaeya’s new peacock pyjamas
Fucking great.
Diluc shows up at Kaeya's door with a potentially life-threatening stab wound, and Kaeya takes care of it in Kaeya fashion.
