Chapter Text
This was never meant to be a tale about eternity, despite its eternal nature. No, while it can be read as many times as the people on Earth continue to give value to literature, this story does end.
Have you ever heard of the saying, ‘a story can never be brought to life in the world, until the author has written it to its final breath?’ No, I would assume not. That is because I only just wrote this saying on the page today. Or perhaps you have, assuming the saying has been given a life of its own long after this book is published.
But I digress. As I was saying, this story does end. As does everything and everyone within it. I implore you. Do try not to get attached. Not to this book nor the characters that reside within it under their short lived spotlight.
This is a story we have all experienced in some capacity. Perhaps not as dramatically, but we’ve all seen ‘death’ in whatever form it may take. Please do not be close minded about this. You may not have seen someone die but you have seen entities die. Perhaps your own passion for something has died. Perhaps your relationships with others. Perhaps you’ve seen a star fade away, frowning in consternation. You were sure you had seen it just a moment ago. Perhaps it became lost in the sea of darkness. Perhaps you lost sight of it, distracted by the momentary things on the ground.
Perhaps it had died.
Alas, my story doesn’t seek to reach such lofty heights as the death of a star, nor will I claim it to be. That is for you all to decide, after all.
No, this is a story about me. About us. About humans.
This is a story about a group of friends, all lost in the turbulence of life, caught up in the lie of eternity. You have promised your friends that you would stay with them forever before, haven’t you? And you have failed?
Do not feel too bad. None of us has succeeded before. After all, the word forever is a lie.
And this tale of friendship is likely the most dramatic retelling of the world’s greatest lie.
