Summary
It’d started three days ago, when May had gotten home late from a class and Phil’s napping brain had clocked a gap--a silence after the crunch of gravel in the driveway, that ought to be filled by the creak of the front door.
He’d gone out to find May standing braced against the hood of the car, looking irritated--and, somewhere beneath it, puzzled. She’d smiled a bit at him--his anxiety had immediately tripled--and gathered herself for a moment, walking carefully up the steps to join him.
“You good?”
She’d handed him the paper-bagged groceries she’d picked up on the way home. Another smile, a regular May smile. “Sure.”
He’d been in no way prepared for it. She’d gone down hard the next morning, crumpled awkwardly bare steps in from the front door.
In which Coulson loses at Risk, May loses at Wordle, Daisy collates data on the perpetual mystery that is May's media taste, and they all feel their feelings. Sometimes it takes things getting a little hard again to realize just how far you've come.

Summary
“We haven’t had enough time,” Daisy said softly, staring back at her screen as her Lighthouse room dimmed. She tried to memorize the way May’s eyes crinkled at the corners, the lines around her mouth; the way she looked exactly the same as she always had, even with every line of her gone softer. “I don’t—May, it’s only been—” she laughed, shaky, years blurring together in their warmth and recency.
“I’m not that old, Daisy.”
“I’m not saying you’re old!”
“Really? ‘Cause everyone, lately—”
“Nothing’s allowed to happen to you,” Daisy blurted, suddenly desperate. “You’re—unbreakable, May, you can’t—”
The way May stilled made Daisy’s heart stutter.
“Unbreakable, huh.”
(Or: You know how there's a part of you that still wants to believe in forever?)

Summary
Andy sighs, pulls another candy bar from the pocket of her coat, yanks on the wrapper with her teeth, and sets it on the hood beside her. Waits.
“C’mon, asshole,” she mutters. “I don’t have all the time in the world.”
“And that’s the gist of it, isn’t it?”
A woman walks out of the darkness to settle at her side. Andy doesn’t look at her. The woman picks up the candy bar with vague, serene disinterest; delicately, she peels back the foil.
“This doesn’t usually work unless I’m dead.”
“I’m told,” says the strange woman, very dryly, “it’s called a near-death experience.”
Andy nearly spits out her mouthful of chocolate.
(Or: when the oldest being alive becomes mortal, Death stops by for a chat. It goes about as well as you'd expect.)

For all it now lived in her every motion, Andy would always be terrible at being mortal.
Nile and Andy, and their little family--impossible, all of them, and yet, not unlike any other--navigating the eternity of life and the inevitability of death, and holding onto each other while they do.

Summary
“You ever considered going,” Elena says to May, just as they arrive at the checkout line, and in a panic changes vigilante to, “vegan?”
“No,” says May, deadpan.
The bored looking cashier gives them a weird look. May offers her the most obnoxiously pleasant hello Elena has ever heard, and spends the next six minutes doing her grim-faced version of trying very hard not to laugh.
A tribute to the delightfully chaotic duo these two became, and to the kind of friendship that starts with two people being lonely together.

Summary
“My bounty’s always been higher than yours,” Zoro says like it's a victory, and the galley freezes.
Nami is the first to realize oh-so-suddenly that—well, Wano had been a closed country before they’d crashed the gates after Whole Cake Island and Zoro’d spent half his time there wandering the wastes anyway.
So—of course.
Of course he doesn’t know.

Bookmarker's Notes
And Luffy’s expression—doesn’t fall, exactly, or twist; it just shifts, frustration slipping into a kind of bewildered confusion, not hurt and not remorseful and not even particularly sentimental.
“‘Course I love you,” he says plainly. “I loved you from the moment I saw you, ’cause I decided to,” and he blinks at Zoro, and then at Nami, and at Robin, and at Usopp, and at Sanji, and at Chopper, and at Brook, and at Franky, and at Jinbei, and then he tilts his head, frowning—not like he’s given them any kind of great gift but like they’re all a little slow on the uptake—like it’s the softest, easiest, truest thing in the whole world. “Stupid Zoro,” he says. “Why would I do anything else?”
And there is a beat, then.
As they process.
Before Franky bursts into sobs and Chopper rushes him for a hug and Sanji says, “Shitty Captain, I only accept love from beautiful women—” red-faced and Nami sputters, You can’t just say stuff like that! with a crack in her voice and Jinbei laughs and Zoro scoffs, turns away—
And Luffy squawks, baffled, “I thought you wanted me to—” as he’s tackled to the floor by half of them.
(Because it is, they think.)
(It is a gift.)

Summary
Sanji tries to imagine Yonji carrying anything for him at all just to be nice. The daydream falls apart instantly, because Yonji only ever took things from Sanji to break them.
“Do you promise you’ll give it back?” he musters the courage to ask, clinging to the cookbook a kind old woman just sold him, unwilling to let it go without making sure. She had smiled and said she was certain her family’s recipes would be in good hands with him and Sanji doesn’t want to prove her wrong before he gets a chance to even try. “You have to promise.”
Zoro gazes down at him with that inscrutable look on his face he’s worn all day. He could probably take the book from Sanji pretty easily but he doesn’t yank it away or twist his wrist until he lets go. They just stand there, sizing each other up. Sanji’s nerves mount with every second but he doesn’t back down.
Yonji would have hurt him already and laughed about it. The first mate of the Strawhat crew simply says, after enough time that Sanji knows he’s taken it seriously, “Promise.”

Summary
“It’s the thaw you have to look out for. That’s the part that really burns.”
May, May and Coulson, May and Coulson and Skye. Throwing it back to a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (2013 on the ABC network), when the team's biggest problems were less about saving the world and more along the lines of "Can we trust this weird girl Coulson found in a van?" and "Why do they call Melinda May the Cavalry?"
