There is a decayed skeleton on the forest floor, a mess of mangled bones, bloodless and whole, and Nie Huaisang recognizes him the way the butcher recalls the carcass of the body he has slaughtered. This is his brother and they are both animals and Nie Huaisang does not know how to love him without one of them being dead.

You won’t stop slandering me in public, won’t stop writing songs about how much you want to fuck me at the same time. You make me so angry, and I still–” Lestat almost thought he’d say it.
