Marlon was just as beautiful as he had been back then, absolutely captivating. Gil couldn't bear to take his eyes off of him, as if Marlon would fade away if Gil wasn't looking.
Or: what if Marlon hadn't stayed in Pelican Town with Gil? Alternate Timeline to Never Love An Anchor/Safe Ship, Harbored. Some details might not make sense without knowledge of those fics, but I think it still works without it.

Telling him was sort of her last resort; he was a medical doctor, after all, and she wouldn’t be caught dead talking to him otherwise. He wore a green corduroy jacket recreationally, for Yoba’s sake. Who dressed like that?
Haley thinks she’s dying. (Spoiler alert: she’s not.) Thankfully, she has a standing appointment with Dr. Harvey on Winter 9.
