Summary
Katara had thought she had finally gotten over the broken heart that came with Zuko's betrayal. Believed she'd let go of the whirlwind of emotions sparked by a run in with the blue spirit one rainy night in Ba Sing Se. But it seems the spirits have other plans for the two of them when Zuko shows back up, offering to help the gaang on their strive to end the war. Forcing both young adults to face the conflicting and confusing emotions head on. And maybe find a way to fix things once thought to be broken beyond repair.

Summary
Even though the war has ended, the world is still not at peace. There’s treaties to finalize, reparations to pay, and a new world order that is anything but stable.
Zuko’s advisors order him to marry quickly. He needs an heir, ideally multiple. In the back of his mind, he’d expected this. He just never thought they would suggest he marry an Earth Kingdom girl to stabilize the colonies and convince them that the Fire Nation truly does want peace.
Katara has a problem. The South has been devastated and the North won’t lend aid or men unless the tribes are united through a marriage. As daughter of the chief— and only Southern woman of marrying age— she must be the one to marry, although she detests her betrothed.
The more time they spend at court, the closer Zuko and Katara grow, threatening the very world they fought to save.

Zuko scrubs his body until it’s raw, blushing red; he dunks his head under the hot water and stays there, staring up at the dark, vaulted ceiling of the washroom until his lungs run out of breath to use.
The oil of honeysuckle and opium and cinnamon, sweet and sharp and earthy, does not wash the stench of scorched flesh out of his nose.Zuko falls asleep on the evening of his official coronation, when he’s twenty-one-years old and has finally reached his majority. Zuko wakes on the morning of the Agni Kai with his father, eight years earlier.
This is annoying for several reasons, like the fact that the War is still ongoing, that he has zero friends, and that Ozai is not in jail.

Summary

“You scared me first,” Katara releases a sigh of relief, soaking in the faint, yet familiar warmth returning to his sickly skin. ]After successfully ending the 100 years war, the mangled, scarred, war torn world suddenly seeks guidance from a group of teenagers who have lost all hopes of preserving their childhood. Zuko is thrown into his new position after a painful recovery as the leader of a Nation that tormented the world and Katara finds a newfound opportunity in choices that would have never been accessible before. Despite their futures being prematurely thrust upon them they still have to deal with maintaining withering relationships between family and friends, resurfacing past traumas, and discovering words are futile when it comes to deciphering the complications that come with new crushes.

A brutal counteroffensive on the Day of Black Sun alters the trajectories of Zuko and Katara's fates, changing their lives forever.
This work delves deeply into the world of Avatar, staying true to much of the source inspiration while taking liberties so as to age it up and break down so many of those amazing themes and questions brought up in the show. Specific focus on trauma, guilt, and PTSD; on the moral gray area that war creates and the inevitability of having to do the hard thing over the right thing. Early chapters set the framework, but later chapters are some of my best writing.
Sprawling, long-form character study (mainly 3rd person, with 1st person flashbacks).
