Summary
The second thing that had registered with Illya when he had been briefed about one Napoleon Solo was the fact that the man was noted as not having a soulmark. This was not unheard of but very uncommon and very useful for a spy. Especially one who specialized in seduction; there was no risk of finding your match. Illya found that the thought of this beautiful man (the first thing he had noticed about the American spy) not having a mark or soulmate rankled him for some reason.
Illya tries to deal with his growing attraction to his partner because he knows that Napoleon doesn't have one, right?

Summary
It started as a joke. A friendly ribbing between former rivals that had legs, most frequently deployed in exasperation at one of his more unorthodox strategies. He had his own barbs, of course, but none as consistent as his partner’s assertion that he was a terrible spy.
He doesn’t know when it changed. When the words started to convey other things besides annoyance, good-natured or otherwise. Once he realizes it, though, he starts paying attention. That’s not to say he understands everything that’s behind the words. He can’t, or won’t, let himself consider it too carefully. Not for a while, anyway.
(5 times Illya tells Napoleon he’s a terrible spy, and 1 time he
says what he really meanswell, actually, he still tells him that time too.)Bookmarked by Hephestion
