Summary
"Cold?" Jason murmurs shittily — and fuck, he's right there at Percy's ear. Percy cranes his head to the side and leans away, and good thing that he does, because Jason is crowded up in his personal space like it's the most private conversation in the world.
This is one of many things about Jason Todd: Percy doesn't even think he's actively trying to be an asshole.
Well — no, that's not entirely true. He's making fun of Percy's low threshold for cold temperatures, and has done so ever since winter hit with a vengeance in Gotham ( "It's a northeastern city," Jason says, like Percy hasn't lived here his entire fucking life) and noticed Percy dragging out his heavier work jackets. The question is genuine enough by itself though, which is almost more aggravating. Jason's an observant guy. He's not nice, but he's observant. He asks shit like this without thinking for a second what it could do to Percy's brain, to see him up close and personal and acting like he's concerned.
Y'know. For his friend.
"I don't want your jacket," Percy replies archly, just to maintain his dignity.

Summary
The destination he has in mind is unclear — unnamed, yet, more accurately. Jason doesn’t know where he’s going, or what he’s going to do when he gets there. A few hours’ drive just didn’t seem far enough to be away from the expanse of Gotham, not when Bristol itself rolled out several miles around the city proper, so he cranked it up a few hours. Chicago seemed like a far enough place away, until he got onto I-80 and a terror seized him as he remembered Dick had spent a brief stint as an officer in Chicago. So he kept driving west.
Keeps. Keeps driving west. Jason Todd has no idea where he’s going or no idea what he’s going to do when he gets there, but he knows with certainty three things:
Jason Todd is a wanted man.
Jason Todd is the Red Hood.
And Jason Todd absolutely cannot go back home.

There's a gun aimed at his chest.
For a long, long second, there is nothing in Percy's mind. All former thoughts of strangulation or causing a domestic disturbance abate, gone like deer scattered in brush and leaving him staring into the headlights.
It's a gun. It's pointed at him. It's broad daylight, looking somewhere in the ballpark of two in the afternoon, and a woman with dark eyes and an expressionless face is holding him at gunpoint. A man stands off to her side; he does not have a gun in his hand, but his hand is resting on a suspiciously bulky hip. Bodyguard, perhaps.
The woman's stare could shoot Percy down faster than the bullet could.
"Hello, Mr. Grant," she says.
Aha. Okay. She knows his name. That's cool.

Summary
"I don't have to take this," Alessio says, like he's only just decided. He stands, all in a rush, but Jason is standing too. He has his gun out before Alessio does, pointed right in-between his eyes. Alessio freezes, gun only halfway out of his coat.
"Sofia," Jason says, asking without asking.
She considers it for a moment, she really does. She taps a knuckle underneath her chin and finally says, "Give it a second." To Alessio, "Is this your final answer?"
Alessio looks over at Jason. "You do what she tells you?" He says. "Follow her around like some kind of dog? That's it? Is that really the life you want for yourself?"
Jason is quiet for one, two, three heartbeats. Sofia watches and waits for his reaction. "Guess it's better than rummaging around in somebody else's scraps," he says, tone dripping with disdain. "Remind me which one of us is supposed to be the dog again?"
"See?" Sofia says, looking back to Alessio with a smile. "He's learning."

Dick’s cheek smashed against the sharp gravel, Slade’s body pinning him to the ground. “That was hardly a fight at all, kid,” Slade murmured in his ear before he pulled off of Dick, replacing his body weight by slamming his knee on the small of Dick’s spine and keeping it there. “I’m disappointed, honestly. You trying to lose?”
Dick’s fingers spasmed and curled into the gravel in silence, and then, slowly, Slade shifted. Removed his knee. Slade gave a rough, startled laugh as he made the realization, and Dick heard him sit back, then stand.
“You were,” Slade murmured, sounding almost delighted. Or — at least, as close as a man like that could get.
Dick rolled over and pulled himself up, brushing the debris from his face and his clothes, heart jackhammering as he stared Slade in the eye. Dick swallowed hard.
“I have a deal for you.”
Slade huffed, like that was quaint, the corner of his lip upturning. “...A deal?”
“A deal," Dick said quietly. "One year."
