⭐8/10 I usually don't bookmark/rec fics under nine, but I just had to with this one.
Was this the best fanfic I have ever read in my life? No. Did I laugh my ass off reading every chapter? Yes. I am Canadian and that made me feel like I know nothing about Canada 🤣 (in my defense I was born and raised in Quebec). I learned a lot of Canadian lore through this and I fucking love it.
Honestly, the only thing missing is Ilya going to Canadian Tire 🇨🇦🚗

Summary
“It’s not something we’ve discussed too much,” Shane admits reluctantly. “I mean, I think we talked about it once or twice, after being around Hayden’s kids. But…I was afraid…I don’t know if you want…” His sentence falters and he presses a hand to his stomach, inhaling slowly like he’s trying to soothe more nausea.
It takes Ilya’s brain a few moments to process, to catch up, to piece together this half-filled puzzle Shane’s laying out for him.
“We talked about having babies,” Ilya supplies, arching an eyebrow, “are you trying to say we are…having a baby?”
Shane sucks in another slow, controlled breath. “Um, yeah. That’s what I’m trying to say.”
“You are pregnant?”
Wincing, the shorter man nods. “Mhm.”

I don't have the words to describe how much I love this. The story is really well written and feels complete, something I've had a hard time finding with these Mpreg AUs. Ilya is the sweetest motherfucker on the planet - he can read Shane like nothing else and it's making my heart ache (in a good way). I love that the author didn't make a big deal of them coming out - it was integral to the emotional journey but thankfully not the whole point of this FF. Honestly this made me really warm inside. Thanks to the author I now want a relationship like Hollanov and a partner like Ilya (why are fictional men so much better than in real life!?!). -

Summary
“Listen, I know the sweater is ugly, but it’s rude to stare,” Shane said peevishly. He was overstimulated and wanted to go home, the last thing he needed was some dickhead staring at him.
Ilya took a long drag of his cigarette, eyes still not leaving Shane.
“Maybe staring is not bad thing,” Ilya said. “Maybe I stare because you are very pretty.”
Shane floundered before he could form real words. “Well. That’s stupid.”
“The staring? Or you being very pretty?”Or: A meet-ugly turned friends with benefits frat boy college au. Shane is convinced he’s nothing more than just another hookup on Ilya’s extensive roster. Ilya’s spent his whole summer plotting on how best to lock Shane down. Misunderstandings, emotional constipation, and terrible communication skills have nothing on Ilya Rozanov's persistence when it comes to getting his man.

I don't know what does it for me with these college AUs, but they are fucking fantastic. I love how Shane and Ilya are both frat boys, but Shane has to be the least frat boy frat boy out there. I really enjoy the fact that the characters are not making a big deal of their sexualities - it's kinda refreshing (and like the furthest thing ever from the actual source material 😂). Loved the way this was written and how the story was built. -

Summary
Under the guidance of his doctor and mostly out of desperation due to his last annual heat being severe enough to nearly land him in the hospital, Shane Hollander knows he needs to take a heat partner for the first time if he doesn’t want to end up in a cycle facility.
With his options between hiring a comfort alpha or asking one Ilya Rozanov for help, the choice is clear to Shane. Even if it feels like he’s losing every shred of his dignity to ask his - rival? fuckbuddy? - whatever Rozanov is to help him through his heat, Rozanov is the only alpha he trusts enough to take care of him.
Rozanov is due for his own rut and is more than happy to finally, finally have heat sex with Hollander. Which is why he says yes with no hesitation. No other reason, of course.
Now they both just need to survive the week with their hearts intact, which is something far easier said than done.- Language:

This was the perfect ABO heat/rut fanfic. It was so fucking sweet and spicy, but there also was some actual good plot. The smut scenes were well balanced and I loved how Ilya stayed coherent through everything (unlike a lot of these ABO stories out there). The story also really felt complete with the ending. -

I absolutely love this AU and the relationships between the characters. The story flowed really naturally and the light angst made it that more interesting. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the power dynamics were written here - I was a little scared with Ilya being in a position of power over Shane. The only tweak I would have made is that I would have loved to get more insight on Ilya's choice of major and how he shared Russian culture with Shane though the books he had him and the other students read.
