Just because they’re your other half, that doesn't always mean they know and will be what's best for you, or what's best for them either! People aren't puzzle pieces, there's never going to be this perfect fit for you, or anyone else. But that's fine because you know what? That's not what love is. Love is a commitment to caring and understanding someone, not just even when, but rather especially when it's hard. You don't get to choose who you fall in love with, but you do choose if you're going to stay with them. And when that love fades, you choose that you want to stick by them. So, it's fine to not be a puzzle piece, or some broken plate looking for its other half. Love was never about any of that stuff anyways.
In world of soulmates, love wasn't a guarantee. Hypnos learns the hard way. But that didn't mean there won't ever be any love, it was just not where you thought to look for it. Hypnos learns that part too.

Hypnos finds himself in a perilous situation. Zagreus gains a partner-in-crime. And as they face the dangers of the Underworld together, their friendship may become something else entirely.

An AU where Zagreus was raised by Demeter and ends up fighting his way through the Underworld regardless - just in the opposite direction. Guarding the entrance out is the terrifying monster Cerberus, but guarding the entrance in is Achilles, best of Greeks. And he has strict orders not to let anyone in.
