Summary
When Jonathan Sims is promoted to Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, he does his best to live up to the demands of the job. He appoints his two closest friends, Timothy Stoker and Sasha James, to be his assistants. He works long hours to catch up on the backlog of clutter left behind by the previous Archivist. He tries to ignore the strange, disembodied voice that only he seems able to hear.

"What therefore God hath joined together in human and daemon, let not man put asunder." (Mark 10:9)
Jonathan Sims, six months after the Unknowing, wakes to find himself without a daemon - without humanity, without a soul. It's a cursed half-life, but existence as a shell without a heart isn't so bad: between solving the mystery of a persistent illusion cast over his friends and some light pseudo-cannibalism, a life as a monster is better than no life at all. At least, it would be, if it wasn't for the fucking Owl.
Or: break free, Jon. You have nothing to lose anymore.

“Hey, Jon?” Martin isn’t moving. He sturdies himself, holding Jon back like an anchor. If Jon wanted to go, all he’d have to do is drop Martin’s hand, but he can’t. They’re holding hands. They’re meant to be holding hands. “Why did you say my mother was dead?”
“I don’t know,” Jon runs his free hand through his messy curls. When had his hair gotten so long? “It just popped into my head like a passing thought, like something I heard somewhere once. We haven’t known each other that long, Martin, I’m sure I just mixed you up with someone else at the Institute.”
“Like a memory?” Martin asks, quietly.
“Sure,” Jon says. “Like a memory.”
***
Between phantom earthquakes and visions of a terrifying future, something is very, very wrong at the Institute. And only Jon and Martin can see it.

Summary
Take the four-month PRO contract, Kakashi had said. It’ll be fun, Kakashi had said. Well—no, what had actually happened was that Kakashi had taken Sasuke out to a bar in downtown Gatineau, bought him two shots of tequila, and said, “Here’s the thing. PRO is hell and you’ll be more miserable than you’ve ever been in your life, but if you can tough it out then I can transfer you back to the NCR as a program officer no problem. I’m talking indeterminate position, salary bump, benefits, vacation, prospects for advancement, the whole package. Think on it, okay?”
And now here Sasuke was—back in the NCR, mildly scarred from four months working under Kabuto—only to find his apartment uninhabitable, his relationship moving faster than anticipated, his out-of-touch manager even more out-of-touch than he remembered, and the future of his brand new indeterminate-with-benefits-and-vacations position hinging on the achievement of a successful BBB on his language test. And his Excel sheets, left for four months in Naruto's incapable hands? Don't even get him started.

Summary
Years after the averted apocalypse, and Jonathan Sims is happy as he'll ever be in his life - he lives with Martin, he works with Basira, he sees his friends most weeks, he's happily wedged between the Beholding and the rest of the world.
He hasn't seen a Leitner since the end of the world that wasn't, and he's content to keep it that way.
But this one is different. If he reads this one, he vanishes. If he reads this one, he's in a world where he never existed.
But the longer he lives in this world, the further he drifts from the things keeping him tethered - and is reality really better for having him in it?
