Summary
What makes a hero?
MK thought he knew.
A hero, to him, was someone who protected everyone. They put the world before themselves. They're the most selfless, kindhearted people you'll ever meet, saving innocent lives and sparing those that cross them.
But when a new threat rises, MK learns a harsh truth. Not every hero wins the day, and not everyone could be saved. Even the strongest falter, and the brightest lights often cast the darkest shadows.
And yet, not everything is lost. From honing strange new senses to wrangling newborn cubs, MK had grown into his life as a monkey demon, meeting others of his kind and learning their culture. He’s discovered something worth fighting for. These were his people, and this was his home.
But with that discovery comes a harsher lesson. To protect what’s most precious, you must sacrifice your morals. Sometimes, you can’t even protect yourself.
So when clouds gathered over Flower Fruit Mountain, and snow fell far too early, MK knew his world was about to change again.

“…Ignore it.” Li Jing’s tone had wavered, genuinely strained and somber. MK froze with his mouth halfway open to yell again, surprised. “Do not listen. This is for the best… It'll hurt only for a moment. He doesn't have immortality, it'll be quick.”
“No, no, NO!” MK slammed the walls again, teeth clenched so hard his jaw ached. “YOU CAN’T DO THIS!”

"Hey, bud, have you ever tried to shapeshift into your monkey form without the power behind it?"
"Huh? Whatcha mean by that?"
"I'm saying that you can probably shapeshift into your little monkey form and not have to fear destroying the mountain again!" Wukong bit into a peach with his characteristic cheeky smirk as he did. "You'll be able to get comfortable using it so that in the future, if you ever need it, you'll have more control than ever before!"
"I... never thought of that. I guess I can try it!"
"Haha, yeah! I'm gonna have sooooo much fun teaching you stuff!" The Monkey King laughed, his tail gripping a branch as he let himself fall and hung upside down, as if showing what MK may be able to do someday.
And so, MK set off to try just that. It was a short conversation, but one that would change how he would see himself from then on.
Who would've guessed being a monkey was so fun... and lead to more mysteries?

"What is this for?" Red Son lifted the guitar, trying to figure out how to properly hold it. "Do you want me to pose with this?"
"You're my muse, congrats!" MK grinned, grabbing a bass guitar from the wall. "But I also want to hear what you've got!"
Of course, he knew about the instruments MK owned. He had seen them a hundred times. But he had never given them much thought, never bothered to question why MK, an artist, had an entire collection of musical equipment. Were all of them real after all?
MK had always been a mystery to Red Son. Apparently, there was much more to him than he had ever realized.

BeaconTown has been on his list of destinations he's always wanted to visit, but when he finally gets there, he's shocked to find it's not all the tales and rumors have lived up to be. The BeaconTown he's been told of is no more. Many mysteries await him in town, and in the forest beyond it's border.

After breaking free of the loops, Siffrin is more than ready to move on and enjoy life again. They’re with their family—their friends—for another journey, one without the King’s Curse nipping at their heels, and everyone will be together for the foreseeable future. So Siffrin is fine. Great, even! The others don’t need to know that their experience in Dormont still hangs heavy as a noose around their neck.
They just need to get over it.
