    Summary

Rumi is a half-demon leader with a very real, very inconvenient crush on Huntrx’s resident chaos goblin, Zoey—who keeps writing brutally sincere bridges about “someone” pulling her back from the edge and still has no idea. Between late-night lyric sessions, “totally normal” hand-on-back choreography, and an alarming number of mysterious scrapes, Rumi is one brush of fingers away from combusting. Unfortunately for her, Mira, their choreographer-best-friend, has clocked everything and is determined to weaponize stage chemistry into an actual confession.

Or: Rumi pines, Zoey vibes, Mira commits war crimes in the name of romance and good blocking.

    Summary

"So, Rumi," Zoey's mother begins, so sweet and benign and unaware of the massive headache she was about to gracefully bestow upon Rumi. "Are you seeing anyone?"

It's an innocent question. Just one of those things that parents ask their daughter's friends. She asks it while Rumi helps herself to a delectable serving of galbi jjim, piling cuts of the meat onto her plate, and Rumi almost fumbles her chopsticks and drops a piece.

It's just a yes or no question.

Rumi, however, stops and very eloquently says: "Um."

OR: When Zoey's cousin invites all three of them to California for his wedding, Zoey is forced to navigate her and Rumi's newly-found feelings for each other while staying at her parents' house for four days. Zoey's trying not to explode, Rumi is an awkward, blushing mess, and Mira thinks it's the funniest shit ever. Will they manage to survive Costco, nosy family members in a backyard barbecue, a bachelor party, and the wedding day itself?

    Summary

Mira raises an eyebrow. “You violently flinching and crashing into the wall is nothing?”

Rumi winces. She doesn’t want to lie, but how is she supposed to tell the truth?

How is she supposed to tell them that the night of the idol awards won’t leave her mind?

That it’s their faces—twisted and vicious—that has her shaking in the middle of the night, holding back tears.

That she knows in her soul that it wasn’t them on that stage but her mind can’t seem to forget the stupid smirks, the rough hands, the fucking song—and her body can’t help but flinch, can’t help the hammering that starts in her chest, can’t help the sweat the builds up in her back as her entire body locks up.

    She can’t tell them that.

    OR

Rumi’s haunted by the night of the Idol Awards. Memories of sharp, cruel words whispered into her ears; of light glinting off the blades she’d always fought beside as they were pointed at her.

But Rumi’s a coward and a fool and refuses to tell the two closest people in her life what's bothering her.

They notice, though, and luckily for Rumi, Mira and Zoey care far too much to let her suffer alone.

She grabbed a couple of painkillers from the cabinet and swallowed them with a handful of water from the sink. Her hands shook as she brought the water to her mouth.

Rumi had time. She could finally focus on something other than faults and fears, and she intended to focus on things that mattered.

She'd be feeling better in a couple of weeks, tops.

An exploration of love in the face of impending loss.

What if being a hybrid didn't make Rumi longer lived--what if it did the opposite?

    Summary

Once upon a time, like a punchline to a joke, a half-demon and a hunter knelt before a grave and talked.

The half-demon reiterated what she knows (what she has just learned) to the hunter. She states that hunters kill all demons. When the hunter confirms it, she verifies “Anything with patterns?”

She is looking at her own.

And this is the key moment, the fulcrum on which a wish swings: Celine does not say, “No”. She does not say that the hunters will spare the half-demon, even if she has patterns, because she is Rumi and she is a person. Celine says, “Cover those up,” and says “You are not like them Rumi.” She says, “Your patterns will go away when you turn the Honmoon gold.” She tells Rumi that she only has patterns because her dad was a demon. Neither of them says that Rumi is not a demon.

Celine says, ‘You can be fixed’ and Rumi hears ‘You can be spared, if you are fixed.’

What Celine tells her is she is different from them, but not different enough.
