When Zack is discovered trying to micro-dose Mako into Cloud through sex after his own enhancements, Angeal and Sephiroth impress upon them how dangerous something like that was - but the simple fact that it seemed to be working means Sephiroth has to take decisive action to protect Cloud from ending up an experiment locked up in R&D. It certainly doesn't hurt that Sephiroth hasn't wanted to fuck anyone so badly in his entire life.
"If Hojo caught wind of what had been done… Sephiroth would have to be quick, and very shrewd to make certain all legal loopholes were carefully filled in so that the Science department had no claim on Strife over his own."

Genesis just needed someone who could keep up with him in battle and be his potions backpack, and Cloud just happened to be the right height to stay out of sight behind him to pass him an ether and hit him with a cure now and then. He doesn't understand why everyone else thinks Cloud is a worthless grunt, and determines to make his life better.

Summary
Once, many years ago when Cloud was just a trooper, he was sent to pick up an injured SOLDIER and take him to his next mission. Sick and injured, Genesis was in no shape to be doing anything of the sort. The SOLDIER didn't really understand why Cloud stuck around to help him out, but he appreciated it far more than Cloud ever knew.
Genesis made Cloud promise to come see him in Midgar and watch Loveless together once he'd made SOLDIER himself, but after failing the exams Cloud was too embarrassed to seek him out.
A new theater opening in Edge sends Cloud a complimentary ticket to the famous play, and Cloud decides its time to keep his promise to at least watch it even though the man he'd briefly fallen in love with is long dead.
