At 17, Tae died.
Or almost.
The crash twisted metal and bone like paper. Blood, fire, glass. Time slowed. Then stopped. A hand reached out pale, long-fingered and offered him a choice.
“Live, and take her place.”
Tae didn’t understand what that meant at the time. Only that he was dying, and he wasn’t ready.
“Yes,” he whispered.
Tae woke up in the hospital. His parents gone. His memories twisted. And a strange mark burned into the base of his spine, a black lily tattoo, one he never got.

Summary
