Chapter 3
He leaned close on the table. She had to be dreaming. She pinched herself. She wasn't dreaming. Danie’s head filled with stars. The distance was wide, but that small inch forward he leaned when resting on his crossed arms was an entire galaxy closer to her, in her opinion. “Do you find it difficult, flirting with men?”Danie wanted to cry. “Not usually,” She said. She was too flustered to lie, and that was dangerous. She knew it was dangerous. But recognising it and working on it were two different things.
“Yet you do it with me so easily.”
“Uh,” She stammered, “Um.”
Tobirama’s hand reached out, as silent and soft as a passing cloud, and carefully grasped some loose strands of dark hair framing her face. She stopped breathing. She was dead. She was a goner. He played with her hair tenderly, his eyes slightly lidded and his smile sweet and teasing.
“Feel free to practice with me any time, Yuki-san.” He let go and reclined, and the phantom light tug of the strands remained. “I am, after all, a teacher.” His flirtations stopped, waved like a leaf in the breeze.
It was a demonstration. He thought she needed a teacher. It was a demonstration! What was the move? What was she supposed to do, damnit? People in books always knew what to do but not her. She swallowed, and tried to gather her wits. But it was hard when they were scattered in the galaxy of his amused eyes. “Teach me?” She asked, hopeful. Anything, anything to keep him looking like he did in those small glimpses.
Chapter 8
She was truthful with her affections. No doubt, the result of everyone around her being as obvious around her. With such a lovely face, who would have shame? Her truthful, obviousness suited her.He leaned close to her, her long hair in his fingers. Her eyes went wide, beautiful. Her mouth parted in a small ‘o.’ And her cheeks, because she was prone to blushing, went bright red with blood, and he knew, then, without a doubt. She had teased him for a length, and so he tastefully offered lessons in compliments.
Without noticing, in the time following she referred to these lessons as ‘flirting lessons,’ not realising the name change was indicative of her true intentions from the beginning — what she had been caught doing. Who was he to complain?
He took to staring at her freely, to complimenting her in that space. What a brilliant, gorgeous woman she was. How lucky he was for himself to have taken her fancy.
Realise soon, he wanted to say. Realise soon, the way I only look at you.

Chapter 10
Despair is so delicious.Heiter used to tell Himmel that he was a glutton for punishment, which is probably true, and that there was probably something wrong with him, which definitely is. Thus, he is used enough to the idea that he can readily admit that despair has a strange allure. It is a practiced art: Frieren shows up, Frieren is denser than the earth’s core, Frieren shows him just enough care and what could be affection to make him go half-mad with wanting her, and he falls deliciously back into a viscous soup of woe-is-me that anyone who’s made a name for himself by being selfless and cheerful cannot help but enjoy. The void calls. He comes running.
