Technically, this might all have been Todd's fault. The problem had started when he realised the one way he could make introducing his eccentric, polite, British and undeniably male lover to his parents go more smoothly: to introduce him at the same time as Amanda introduced her partners. A little bit of homosexuality faded from importance when compared to a hoard of punk hobos, some of which were over ten years older than her. Mom and dad would be too busy panicking about what Amanda had got herself into to care about what he was doing.
At least, that was the theory.

Summary
It sounds odd to say that Todd was happy not an hour after learning that Priest had pulled strings and was trying to get Dirk deported back to Romania, but it was true. He knew that it was technically illegal to exploit the system and marry his best friend for the purpose of keeping him in the country, but Todd was punk. Fuck the system, fuck Priest, and fuck the universe.
And hey, if keeping Dirk in the country meant getting to marry him, then Todd wasn't going to complain.
However, things start to get sticky as many secrets are told, kept, and uncovered, and Todd begins to wonder whether this was a good idea after all.

They've got a new case. But this time they're finally going through it as Detective and Assis-Boyfriend.
When Todd's neighbor has a ghost in her apartment Dirk and Todd come to solve the case. Except they solved it much sooner than they anticipated, at least part of it. The universe is just getting started. This is just the tip of the iceberg, actually, no. It's the whole iceberg in the Arctic Ocean.

Dirk and Todd are very much in love and at various stages of admitting it. Alternating fluff and side character angst, anything can be skipped in favor of the other.
