The years have buffed out some of his roughest edges, but his friend’s brow still spends much too much time furrowed, due in no small part to Phoenix himself. When he’s asleep though, his face finally fully relaxes and he looks young, younger than he looked when he actually was young, even. And he’s a beautiful sleeper, somehow - no one is beautiful when they’re sleeping, not even Trucy whose mouth tends to hang open at unflattering angles to the point where she’s always very cute but he’d refrain from calling her a pretty sleeper. But Edgeworth - Phoenix guesses that it’s due in no small part to the fact that he’s an unreasonably attractive man when he’s awake, all smooth pale skin and strong jawlines and sharp, piercing grey eyes, but he truly manages to look the part of sleeping beauty. It’s hard to believe, sometimes, that this man is Phoenix’s best friend, seemingly untouchable and impossibly important.

“Sherlock?”
“Hmmm?” he tore his eyes from his laptop screen to look up at his friend. Seeing him standing there holding a bottle of wine, he shook his head. “No, thank you, I’m good.”
John laughed. “Well, I already poured you some, but no. I was going to ask, why don’t you ever correct anyone when they assume you and I are together?”
“We are together,” he replied simply, still typing away at his laptop.
John stiffened a bit at that. “What?”
“You and me. We’re together a lot, John. Why would I correct someone who points out a fact?”
John rolled his eyes as he headed back toward the kitchen. “That’s not what I meant,” he called as he put the wine back on the counter.
When he turned around, Sherlock was standing in the doorway between the two rooms.
“What did you mean?”
