"Hi!" The boy on the shuttle – Jim – bounced up from the bed. His smile outshone the dim light, and Leo had to blink against the beam. Sam untangled himself from Jim and waved at Leo.
The doctor backtracked so fast that he almost tripped over his own feet. He stared at the nameplate on the door, which innocently wrote 'Leonard H. McCoy' on the first line and 'George S. Kirk' right below.
"I thought you were Sam?" He blurted before he could help himself.
"That's what the S means. George was our dad," Sam said.
"You two are brothers?" Leo almost bit his tongue in shame for asking the obvious. Jesus, how could Jim beam even brighter?

Pike shoved kleenex toward them by pure instinct. They blinked at him. He blinked at them. They all stuck in a blinking contest. It would be so hilarious if it were not so weird.
