Summary
In the Slight Miscalculation verse:
It's a long walk to the restaurant Hashirama has decided to hold his daughter's birthday celebration at, and Madara gets a bit distracted along the way. Because walking beside Senju Tobirama (dead or alive) is a bit hard when you're head over heels for him and in denial about it.

Summary
It was the slightest miscalculation. Fractional to an absurdly small amount. Something that wouldn't have mattered at all in any other context, even to a perfectionist like Tobirama.
Tobirama misses his mark by one hour, four minutes, and forty-three seconds, give or take fifteen, and when you compare it to the time he's jumped back through, (twenty-two years, nearly) that seems like such an infinitesimal period of time. Surely the consequences of that mistake could not be life changing?
Yet Tobirama opens his eyes in the past, just in time to see his sword slide deep into Izuna's side. Sees the pain and hatred on the other man's face, and for the first time in nearly his whole life Tobirama panics. He triggers another seal, and vanishes with the Uchiha heir, to the horror of those around them.

Hikaku's fingers grasp Madara's shirt, and tighten. This is the man who took him in when the Senju killed his parents, he's not letting him go, god of shinobi or otherwise. "We won't let him kill you, alright?" Hikaku tells Madara.

It could easily have been deadly, the two most powerful kunoichi of the Senju, literally at each other’s throats but Toka was angry and upset. Mito had her disabled and harmless in less than two minutes.
...
The scientist in him (or if he’s being brutally honest, the curious feline part of his mind) wants desperately to know why Madara iss the only person able to do so.
...
Tobirama exhales. Breathing is optional, but he clings to it, to the normalcy of allowing air in and out of his lungs.

Senju and Uchiha tended to go civilian only for child rearing, after retirement, or when there was less need for active shinobi, and even then, they usually kept up with basic training to keep in shape.
...
Hashirama frowns thoughtfully at his report and shrugs. Madara is going to take that as a ‘Yes Madara is perfectly right again,’ shrug, and not a ‘What the hell, I don’t like them anyway, so I won’t be broken up about it if he does kill them’ shrug. From the snort that sounds from beside him, he suspects that Tobirama chose the other meaning. -

Summary
Mito would respect Tobirama's Final Wish. She would see his will through, even if she regretted that he needed to sacrifice himself. He was fading from lack of care anyway, so there was nothing anyone could do anymore for him. Mito alone wasn't enough to stop the process once it had started.
Madara found a person on the cusp of reaching divinity doing the sacrificial ritual to let a place gain sentience ahead of time. He tried to intervene only to be stopped by Mito. Someone on the cusp of becoming a god or goddess shouldn't sacrifice themselves, but if they had not found this person who was fading before then he had no right to stop this selfless person from sacrificing himself.
It all came crashing down a year after the sacrifice when Mito revealed who had sacrificed himself. Amaterasu also grew angry at Madara for spurning his soul's match. It was a mess. Everything changed when the spirit formed from the sacrifice awakened though.
