Henry hated how his mouth was suddenly dry, “Torture, Sir?”
Radzig cast a sharp eye over him. “I know it’s distasteful, but it can’t be helped. This is too important.”
Henry never told his father about what happened to him deep in the bowels of the Trosky dungeons. Past is past, and airing it out only ever brings heartache.
He avoids torture, he avoids dungeons, he avoids anything that makes him feel like he's back there.
It works, until a bandit is captured, and Radzig expects Henry to be the one to interrogate him.

Henry stood once more and walked back to his own pack. “You’re very welcome. Is this your first long hike?”
“What gave it away?” Hans chuckled.
A playful smile grew on Henry's lips as he took in the whole of Hans. His oversized backpack, probably his general state as well. Hans didn’t even want to know how pathetically black and blue he looked.
“Nothing at all,” Henry teased. “But you do know you’re not allowed to hunt?”
Hans frowned before he realized Henry was referring to his bow. “Oh! No, it’s not for hunting. It’s to shoot at trees. I’m allowed, I checked.”
Henry raised an eyebrow. “And pray tell what have trees done to you?”
“Well, to be honest, they’ve given me a lot of bruises lately,” Hans teased. “We’ve got a bit of a toxic relationship.”
“I can see that," Henry laughed.

Henry was silent for a few seconds, then he said quietly: “Can you sing something for me?”
“What would you like to hear?”, Hans said, nose in Henry's hair, arms securely around his chest. He could feel Henry's even and strong heartbeat, could feel his muscles, his heat, his breathing. It lit a warm fire in his chest, a comfortable warmness. Affection.
“What your mother used to sing to you”, Henry whispered, hands tightening in the fabric of Hans’ shirt.
“Will it help you to fall asleep?”
Hans could feel Henry exhale, “Yes.”
