Alex sits at the coffee table of his apartment with Clear, eating cereal as he stares into the void. It’s been a blissfully quiet year since they finally beat death, and settled into their new lives. They’re all in college now, and Carter still comes by for dinner at least three times a week, joking about Alex being a house husband every time he cooks. They’re getting better, slowly healing together. It’s not straightforward healing, but they’re all really trying their best to live life.
It’s Saturday, and Alex doesn’t have work for another hour, so he’s let his cereal go soggy from his racing thoughts distracting him. Normally he’d be pushing out of the door, keeping life fast enough to lock everything up. It’s been better now though, so he watches the spot between the fridge and the counter. He can’t hear anything in his head, and it’s blank, no blood or faces. Then a knock on his door drags him out of his trance.

Summary
Nigel Chessum (25 July 1745 - 5 July 1777) was a British Army officer present at many notable battles during both the Seven Years' War and the American Revolutionary War. Born in Liverpool, he was commissioned as an ensign in 1757 and served under several notable commanders of the British Army throughout his career. He was acting in the capacity of a general when he was assassinated outside the undestood rules of engagement by an unknown sniper.
A retrospective review of his career paints Chessum as an able tactician and an efficient commander in his own right. His death was one of several factors that began the downfall of the British Army in the American Revolutionary War.

Summary
The body isn't that surprising. The gem-encrusted tiara is a little out of the ordinary, but not everything can be a tidy little crime, now can it?
The doctor they call in reminds her vaguely of Seth in that way small town doctors sometimes do: he greets everyone like a benevolent prince, asking after kids and dogs and hairstyles with a knowing, distracted patter.
The similarities end there, however: this doctor is a beanpole of a man, tall and lanky and vaguely rumpled, as if he'd crawled back into and out of bed after being summoned down to investigate the body. The way he stands is just ever so slightly crooked, ever so slightly uncomfortable. And there’s a strange frantic energy to his presence that everyone seems content to ignore.
