Having children is selfish, Mikoto knows that well. Bringing halpless babies into a world such as theirs solely to toss them to the wolves and hope they emerge from the battlefield as threats is selfish. Her eldest is condemned to a path of dying young and great, or perhaps growing old and bitter.
She cannot find it in herself to regret her choices. If she had a chance to do it all over again, she'd make the same decisions.

Just barely long enough to pull down over his hands slightly, bony knuckles peeking out, long fingers wrapped around a mug Mike stole from a diner years ago."
