What makes a family? Is it your blood?
It's in this cell that Outlook's child dies and Sabo is born. They'll never understand the wilderness underneath his skin.
Your name? Your memories?
Cleverly, the Commander hot on his trail leads him right into a dead-end.
"Listen, I don't know what I did to offend you but we can talk!" Empty hands raised up, he tries to placate the guy. It seems to anger him further.
"You don't know what you did?" A hand slams against the wall, freezing him in place.
"Sabo."
"How- how do you know my name?"
Or is it the fact that no matter how far you lose yourself, they'll never let you go?

Summary
"That's a bit arrogant." Ace squinted at his baby brother while his other brother laughed.
"How do you even know what that means?" he growled, and Luffy simply pointed to Sabo, who now looked proud. "Nice to see you're picking up a vocabulary, Ace certainly isn't going to learn." The freckled kid had a deep scowl and huffed.
"Vocab…ulary - does that mean all the words I know?" The blond nodded frantically, elated to know Luffy was taking traits from more than just Ace. "I want a big vocabulary like Sabo cus' he sounds cool!" One brother was certainly enjoying this more than the other.
"Well, I should start teaching you how to read anyways, might as well use it as an opportunity to expand your vocabulary. Ace's as well."
Luffy had sparkles in his eyes, bouncing on the balls of his feet at the thought of sounding cool like Sabo.

Summary
Luffy gasps delightedly, head wiping around to stare up at Whitebeard with wide, excited eyes. “Ace tried to kill you too?!” he shouts. Behind him, the party doesn’t necessarily stop so much as pause, focusing in on the growing spectacle before them. Oblivious, Luffy continues on. “How long?”
Whitebeard looks down at the young pirate captain that’s practically vibrating in place. Then he looks to the blond revolutionary that is also staring up at him, gaze considering and keen. Then to his second division commander who now has his face in his hands, ears red where they poke out of his hair. Finally, he glances at the rest of his children, out of loop and confused, yet intrigued, nonetheless.

Or, Ace dies (of embarrassment), Sabo is the dramatic middle child, Luffy is having a blast, and everyone else is just along for the ride.

Summary
Shanks has been acting weird ever since he ate that stupid fruit.
"Are you angry with me?" Luffy asks one day when he notices Shanks staring at him again with that weird look on his face. It's a look that makes a stupid, sticky feeling grow in Luffy's chest that just won't go away.
The pirate blinks and his eyes drift to the side, a shift that has become as familiar and as annoying as the look. The sticky feeling grows bigger and Luffy clenches his small fist around the pencil in his hand.
