Whitaker hates the rain. It makes everything feel clammy, damp, and humid, so humid that he feels like he can’t breathe. His shoes have no grip so he constantly slipping and ruining his dry clothes. He hates the feeling of wet clothes clinging to his body, he hates having damp hair. He hates the rain.
Today was rainy.
He shared this hatred of the rain with someone, someone who he wanted to forget about. But this person kept finding their way back into his life, to ruin it. He hated them more than the rain.
Whitaker had seen the rain many times, so seeing the rain today wasn’t anything surprising. But what was surprising… was seeing the person he hated more than the rain, walking through the Er doors. Damp, clammy and his clothes clinging to his body.

Mike went so still he might’ve stopped breathing. The basement’s single bulb flickered overhead, casting jagged shadows across his frozen expression. “L-looked?” he rasped.
“At me.” Will’s fingers trembled where they gripped his own knees. The denim was rough under his nails. “Down there. To—to tell me if it’s…” The word ugly dissolved on his tongue.
Mike made a sound like a wounded animal. His Adam’s apple bobbed violently.
“Jesus, Will. I can’t just—” His hands fluttered helplessly before clenching into fists. A drop of sweat slid down his temple. “That’s—fuck. That’s private.”
Will hunched forward, elbows on his knees. The hole in the couch gaped wider beneath him, stuffing spilling out like guts. “More private than the entire Party knowing my sex life?”
