The mage was brilliant, no one could question that, and sometimes brilliant minds ran in strange channels. Everyone had their hobbies, their little quirks. Maybe they gave an inward sigh when Trent picked more students from the school’s roster for “special training,” knowing that they would probably never be seen again, but it could not be helped. If it meant that someday the Empire could conquer the men and beasts of Xhorhas, could expand their borders, well, then it was worth the lives of a few children. Many such sacrifices were made for the Empire.

"Who would know better?" Eadwulf's shirtsleeves are shoved to the elbow, and his tattoos are visible there, the black hair of his forearms over the maze of dark lines that mark him out as Astrid's match. "There were supposed to be three of us."
Eadwulf heals Caleb. He also tries to heal Bren.
